Nalco Water, an Ecolab Company currently is seeking a Lead Chemist to join the Mining & Mineral Processing RD&E team in Naperville, Illinois. As a Lead Chemist, you will be responsible for developing new innovations and leading broader platforms in mineral flotation. You will also collaborate with other scientists and engineers to develop innovative solutions for our clients' challenges in the mining industry.

What you will do:

  • Engage with customers, sales engineers, and marketing functions to translate industry challenges into research platforms

  • Develop innovative chemistries for mineral processing applications, with special emphasis on programs for the alumina, copper, lithium, and phosphate segments.

  • Collaborate with other researchers and field technical consultants to deploy new innovations in field applications

  • Lead projects from initial prospecting through final validation and commercialization in collaboration with multiple functions

Minimum Qualifications:

  • BS Degree in Chemistry, Mineral Processing Engineering, or a related technical discipline and 6 years of Industrial Research & Development experience; or

  • MS Degree in Chemistry, Mineral Processing Engineering or a related technical discipline and 4 years of Industrial Research & Development experience; or

  • PhD Degree in Chemistry, Mineral Processing Engineering or a related technical discipline and 2 years of Industrial Research & Development experience

  • Experience developing innovative chemical technologies for industrial applications, including oil and gas, mining and mineral processing and or water treatment. This experience should include leveraging knowledge of chemical properties and structures to deliver commercial technologies.

  • Ability to travel (domestic and international) up to 20%

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Experience leading research projects that leverage an understanding of fundamental physical/chemical properties and structural activity relationshipsinfluencing surface modification.

  • Experience developing innovative chemical technologies in mineral processing, with emphasis on mineral flotation, scale control and/or material handling.

  • Experience working independently as well as part of a multi-disciplinary team of researchers

  • Strong written and oral communication skills.

  • Demonstrated experience with public speaking and leading meetings with internal and external customers.

Annual or Hourly Compensation Range

The base salary range for this position is $94,100.00 - $141,100.00. This position is eligible for annual bonus pay based on performance, per plan terms. Many factors are taken into consideration when determining compensation, such as experience, education, training, geography, etc. We comply with all minimum wage and overtime laws.
