The role of the Child and Family Support Behavior Specialist (CFSBS) is to create and help implement behavior intervention plans for Early Childhood students who have been identified as needing additional social-emotional or behavior support. This role supports the implementation of the behavior intervention plans across settings including at home, in the classroom and in childcare settings throughout the Minnetonka School District. Child and Family Support Behavior Services are initiated when other interventions and supports (Tier 1) have been ineffective CFSBS services are also accessed through EC screening, ECSE, Minnetonka district website, ECFE and community referrals. The person in this role serves a liaison between the family and the school to implement interventions and share resources / strategies. When necessary, the Child and Family Support Behavior Specialist conducts home visits to best assess how to serve a family. This professional also serves as a referral source to Relate Counseling and other community resources.
Typical Essential Job Duties/Responsibilities:?
Provide intake, observation, , referral and/or short-term intervention services for children age birth to age 5 who present challenging behaviors and/or social and emotional needs while in attendance at Minnetonka Preschool, Junior Explorers or ECFE classes and community Early Childhood programs. Work collaboratively with the early intervention team, early childhood professionals, Minnetonka Preschool/ECFE Coordinator, and School Counselor to facilitate referral/assessment meetings. Act as the Pyramid Model Behavior Coach. Participate as a member of the Pyramid Model Team Provide individualized parent education, support, resources and referral information. Provide ongoing intervention including all necessary documentation. Interventions can include 1:1 student support, small group, student observation and teaming with teachers. Provide consultation, observation and/or direct intervention within home and community early childhood settings.. Participate in the Minnetonka Family Collaborative including completing required end of year report of services provided. Perform other duties of a similar nature or level as directed by either the Minnetonka Preschool/ECFE Coordinator or the Executive Director of Community Education.
Training and Experience (positions in this class typically require):
B.S. in early childhood special education, early childhood, childhood psychology, social work, or a related field; masters preferred. Evidence of successful experience in providing intervention services to families and young children with behavioral challenges.
Licensing Requirements (positions in this class typically require):
Reliable transportation and a valid driver's license.
Knowledge and Skills (position requirements at entry):
Evidence of knowledge of best practices in parent education and early childhood development. Proven record of punctuality and responsibility. Demonstrated ability to maintain confidentiality. Evidence of the ability to work collaboratively with a variety of professional groups, young children and parents. Excellent communication skills (written and oral), and interpersonal skills as applied to interaction with coworkers, supervisor, the general public, etc. sufficient to exchange or convey information and to receive work direction.
Physical Requirements: Medium Work: Exerting up to 50 pounds of force occasionally, and/or up to 20 pounds of force frequently, and/or up to 10 pounds of force constantly to move objects.
