Summary of Job Duties:This UAMS Department of Orthopaedic Pediatric Primary Care Sports Medicine Assistant Professor position will be located in Central Arkansas and is a non-surgical physician specializes in the non-operative treatment of musculoskeletal conditions. The Primary Care Sports Medicine Physician can maximize non-operative treatment, guide appropriate referrals to physical and occupational therapies, and if necessary, expedite referral to an orthopedic/sports surgeon. They will treat patients for acute injuries (such as ankle sprains, muscle strains, knee & shoulder injuries, and fractures), overuse injuries (such as rotator cuff and other forms of tendonitis, stress fractures) and medical and injection therapies for osteoarthritis. The PCSM will treat patients to help them improve performance, enhance overall health, prevent injury and maintain their physical activity throughout their lives. Qualifications:
  • Valid state medical license as MD or DO
  • Has obtained one year of additional fellowship training in Sports Medicine.
  • Current BC/BE in Emergency Medicine, Biomedical Sciences, Family Medicine, Internal Medicine, Pediatrics or Physical Medicine/Rehabilitation

Responsibilities:

  • Diagnose and manage musculoskeletal injuries and conditions, including sprains, strains, fractures, and tendonitis

  • Perform non-operative procedures including joint and soft tissue injections

  • Collaborate with orthopedic surgeons, physical and occupational therapists to develop individualized treatment plans

  • Provide sports physicals and concussion evaluations in accordance with current guidelines

  • Participate in teaching medical students, residents, and fellows within the College of Medicine

  • Engage in scholarly activities, research, and quality improvement initiatives

  • Attend and support local sports teams and community outreach events as appropriate

  • Maintain compliance with institutional and departmental policies and protocols

  • Other Duties As Assigned.

Salary Information:

Commensurate with education and experience.
