Are you looking for a rewarding career impacting critical campus operations? NC State's Utilities Distribution team maintains and repairs essential systems supporting research facilities, academic buildings, residence halls, and athletic spaces. The team ensures compliance with environmental regulations, provides emergency response, and delivers expert in-house repair and installation services for steam, stormwater, chilled water, sanitary sewer, and domestic water systems.
As a
Utilities Distribution Technician, you will maintain and repair these systems across NC State's Main, Centennial, and

You will also assist with new construction installations, renovations, and welding projects, supporting uninterrupted campus operations. The position requires maintaining a safe, organized work environment while performing physically active tasks, including lifting up to 90 pounds frequently and up to 150 pounds occasionally.
Key Responsibilities:
Diagnose and repair equipment such as fans, pumps, receivers, steam lines, condensate lines, and pressure-reducing stations. Inspect, maintain, and repair utility systems, including steam, hot water, chilled water, storm/sanitary sewer, and domestic water systems. Perform skilled mechanical and piping work, including cutting, threading, soldering, brazing, assembling piping, and connecting valves. Fabricate parts and operate equipment using blueprints, sketches, or verbal instructions. Promote compliance with safety regulations and participate in emergency response, including on-call rotations, weekend work, and snow/ice removal. Wear required personal protective equipment (PPE), including safety glasses, shoes, earplugs, welding gear, respirators, hardhats and/or other gear related to the work site. Communicate effectively verbally with supervisors and the public, and understand verbal and written instructions regarding work assignments and other matters. Apply knowledge of operation and maintenance of steam, storm water systems, chilled water lines, sewer systems, domestic water, and related auxiliary equipment in an industrial setting.
We encourage candidates who enjoy hands-on mechanical work, thrive in a dynamic team environment, and want to support critical campus infrastructure to apply! |
