Overview

Support profitability improvement and profitable growth initiatives for assigned line of business. Understands rates, rules and forms relative to Insurance Service Office (ISO), Selective proprietary and American Association of Insurance Services (AAIS). Works in conjunction with Sr. LOB Analyst and C/L Manager to manage inventory of bureau circulars and analytical projects. All job duties and responsibilities must be carried out in compliance with applicable legal and regulatory requirements.


Responsibilities

  • Partners with the Product Development Specialists to support their responsibility for Insurance Services Office (ISO), Selective proprietary, American Association of Insurance Services (AAIS) rates, rules and forms.
  • Ensures a consistent business process and tools for product development as respects intake, tracking, review, materiality and decisions in terms of ISO, AAIS circulars and bulletins.
  • Also consults with manager and recommends actions outlining pros and cons when considering options.
  • Determine requirements needed to adopt circulars and reviews system ramifications of the circular/bulletins.
  • Collaborates with the Product Development Specialist regarding decisions, requirements and ramifications to Selective proprietary forms.
  • Developing proficient knowledge of the product and coverages from analyzing forms, applications, guidelines and underwriting requirements.
  • Collaborate with the team to understand how coverage applies by analyzing claims activity compared to underwriting practices.
  • Analyze and interpret underwriting information by highlighting trends and making recommendations that will improve product/coverage offerings and/or underwriting guidelines.
  • Identify product trends or needs, which may include market/competitive research, defining opportunities and presenting product and pricing recommendations.
  • Works closely with manager to monitor and report on the profit and loss for one's given line of business.
  • Provides analysis for state and countrywide rate reviews and aids regional partners in region and state level efforts at profitability improvement and profitable production by providing recommendations and support to drive the activity required.
  • Supports Product Development Specialists efforts to maintain inventory and accountability for governance of existing rates, rules and forms. Includes oversight of delay/non-adopt ISO, AAIS circulars.
  • Working closely with manager, manages line of business assigned for all corporate governance and compliance issues.
  • Receives and handles underwriting referrals from the field and/or corporate underwriting, utilizing underwriting expertise to advise a solution or course of action in a timely manner.
  • Includes supporting the Product Development Specialist's, analysis of existing manuscript endorsements, determination of acceptability based on clarity, accuracy and compliance with each state's regulations, develop of alternative solutions using filed forms or provide alternative language that is compliant, clear and concise.
  • Works within LOA and confers with manager for unusual circumstances.
  • Actively participate in supporting predictive model efforts relative to the given line of business.
  • Working with LOB Manager and Sr C/L Lob Analyst, assist with creation and delivery of education materials and training programs for agents, regional personnel and SUBs to ensure through understanding of underwriting guidelines, issues and controls.
  • Participate in the Large Loss Review process and Quality Assurance Reviews as necessary.
  • Provides exceptional customer service to agents, regional personnel, Product Develop staff, SBUs and other stakeholders and identified.

Qualifications

Knowledge and Requirements

  • Highly proficient written and verbal communication skills.
  • Possesses underwriting skills and broad knowledge of company products and underwriting guidelines. Highly proficient ability to solve problems and make sound decisions.
  • Highly proficient ability to multi-task and manage workflows to meet and exceed production and service expectations.
  • Highly effective ability to develop relationships with internal and external customers/peers.
  • Ability to adapt to change as the company moves forward in its strategic vision.
  • Demonstrated proficiency in use of all supplied desktop tools, including the automated underwriting and email systems. Technical knowledge of ISO, AAIS.
  • Ability to research and analyze coverage.
  • Understand pricing methodology, rating structure, and underwriting for exposures.

Education and Experience

  • College degree preferred
  • 3-5 years Underwriting/Claims/Loss Control or other insurance-related experience
  • The following experience is preferred: 2+ years specific business segment experience; or 2+ years of Risk Management or reinsurance experience; or 2+ years Field Underwriting; or 2+ years agency experience.

The actual base salary is based on geographic location, and the range is representative of salaries for this role throughout Selective's footprint. Additional considerations include relevant education, qualifications, experience, skills, performance, and business needs.
