Job Description Summary
The Department of World Languages, Literatures & Cultures at Auburn University seeks a non-tenure track Lecturer in Italian and Latin, starting January 1, 2026. This nine-month, full-time, non-tenurable teaching appointment may be renewed annually by mutual agreement, based on the availability of funds, the need for services, and satisfactory performance. Lecturers have primary responsibilities in teaching and secondary responsibilities in service and instructional leadership. The expected teaching load is 4/4; the lecturer will teach introductory Italian and Latin courses and participate in cultural initiatives organized by the department.
Minimum Qualifications
Master's degree or DML in Italian and/or Classics or a related field at the time appointment begins; record of successful teaching for at least one year. The candidate selected for this position must be able to meet eligibility requirements to work in the United States at the time the appointment is scheduled to begin and continue working legally for the proposed term of employment. Native or near-native proficiency in Italian and English is required.
Desired Qualifications
PhD or other terminal degree in Italian or Classics or a related field; an established and successful record of teaching introductory classes in the target languages and other applicable courses at the college or university level; familiarity with the web-based LMS Canvas, demonstrated ability to engage with innovative learning technologies and/or online pedagogies; relevant service at the level of department, college, or university. The applicant must demonstrate familiarity with foreign language pedagogy and be willing to contribute to the extracurricular activities of our department. The willingness to direct or co-direct a Study Abroad program is highly valued.
