General Summary
The EH&S Supervisor reports to the Senior Manager, EH&S and leads a team of safety professionals implementing EH&S practices at Penumbra. Goals include maintaining a safe workplace and minimizing the risk of injury for employees, contractors, and visitors. The successful candidate will combine their wide-ranging leadership experience and education with regulatory requirements, best safety practices, and company objectives to resolve complex issues in creative and effective ways. The role takes on new assignments, develops plans and manages the team investigating injuries, hazards, and preventing incident recurrence. They work on issues where data analysis, evaluation of variable factors, and selecting methods result in positive change for worker safety. They collaborate with experts within Penumbra and external consultants to realize goals. This position would also coordinate with regulatory agencies and respond to emergency situations, as needed. The position sometimes requires flexible working hours covering all shifts and may work overtime, weekends, and/or holidays when needed. The position may also be assigned to perform work in other Penumbra facilities.
Specific Duties and Responsibilities
* Lead a team of EH&S Specialists and Technicians. *
* Select, manage, and develop staff. Establish objectives, assignments, and provide ongoing feedback through mentoring, performance reviews, and development plans. *
* Investigate employee injuries, hazards, near misses, and other incidents utilizing OSHA requirements and best practices. *
* Create and present safety training using best practices in public speaking. *Create and maintain training matrices to ensure EH&S training is defined and tracked to completion.*
* Work with site leadership to ensure all key EH&S operational controls are in place, and EH&S action items are resolved in a timely basis. *
* Work with site leadership to complete an annual evaluation of compliance for EH&S Federal, State, and local regulations*
* Support the development and achievement of goals in support of corporate strategic initiatives*
* Manage the collection, analysis, and communication of EH&S metrics for the safety benefit of employees and per regulatory requirements. Develop and deliver site specific EH&S programs, including action plans and key initiatives *
* Evaluate the effectiveness of EH&S programs.
* Evaluate EH&S contracts, vendors and vendor participation in safety events. *
* Evaluate employee feedback and implement improvements. *
Actively drive Penumbra's Safety Committee and follow up on necessary actions. *
* Track data for environmental analysis and submit reports including monthly waste, water usage, and utility related metrics*
* Collaborate with other departments on emergency response per Penumbra's Emergency Action Plan.
* Maintain documentation and records on EH&S programs including, but not limited to, CAL-OSHA, Fed-OSHA, FDA, Alameda County/Placer County, and other State and local authorities.
* Work with Human Resources on workers' compensation and related matters. *
* Complete EH&S and Penumbra required training for professional development. *
* Adhere to the Company's Quality Management System (QMS) as well as domestic and global quality system regulations, standards, and procedures. *
* Understand relevant security, privacy and compliance principles and adhere to the regulations, standards, and procedures that are applicable to the Company. *
* Ensure other members of the department follow the QMS, regulations, standards, and procedures. *
* Perform other work-related duties as assigned.

Position Qualifications Minimum education and experience:
* Bachelor's degree in occupational safety and health, engineering, or related field with 8+ years of experience, or demonstrated performance or equivalent combination of education and experience
Additional qualifications:
* Master's degree in occupational safety and health, engineering, or its equivalent level of graduate education.
* Certified Safety Professional (CSP), Certified Industrial Hygienist (CIH), Certification on Professional Ergonomics (CPE) or Certified Ergonomic Evaluation Specialist (CEES), Certified Industrial Engineering (CIE), and/or Certified Hazardous Materials Manager (CHHM).
* Title 22 Hazardous Waste Generator certification; HAZWOPER (Hazardous Waste Operations and Emergency Response); basic knowledge of ISO 14001, ISO 45001, and OSHA regulations, California hazardous materials and waste regulations, Bay Area Air Quality Management District, and FDA's Quality System Regulations; OSHA Workplace Violence Prevention Plan, Radiation Safety, Laser Safety, and Workers' Compensation.
* First Aid, CPR, fire extinguisher training, forklift train-the-trainer.
* 3+ years of experience in supervising and leading a small team
* Strong knowledge of CA OSHA general industry safety orders including safe work practices and personal protection, basic fire protection, lock out - tag out, hazardous materials, material handling and movement, forklift safety, ladder safety, electrical safety, chemical hygiene, industrial hygiene, basic ergonomics, emergency response.
* Medical device, pharmaceutical, biotech, or other regulated industry experience desired.
* Strong oral, written, and interpersonal communication skills.
* High degree of accuracy and attention to detail
* Proficiency with MS Word, Excel, and PowerPoint
* Excellent organizational skills with ability to prioritize assignments while handling various projects simultaneously
Working Conditions
* General office, laboratory, cleanroom, shipping and receiving environments
* Willingness and ability to work on site. May have business travel from 10% - 20%
* Potential exposure to blood-borne pathogens
* Requires some lifting and moving of up to 25 pounds
* Must be able to move between buildings and floors.
* Must be able to remain stationary and use a computer or other standard office equipment, such as a printer or copy machine, for an extensive period of time each day.
* Must be able to read, prepare emails, and produce documents and spreadsheets.
* Must be able to move within the office and access file cabinets or supplies, as needed.
* Must be able to communicate and exchange accurate information with employees at all levels on a daily basis.

Annual Base Salary Range: $145,000 - $185,000
