Job Description

Provides frontline library services to a diverse population of users at the Checkout and Information Desks at the North and West Entrances. Processes local materials and materials from other UM and MOBIUS libraries. In consultation with the Night and Weekend supervisor, may assist with the training and supervising of student workers.

Key Job Duties:
* Assists library users via phone, email or in-person with basic reference questions, policy inquiries, procedural questions, and inquiries about their library account. Knows how and when to refer questions as appropriate.
* Checks out / checks in books, journals, equipment, and other circulating library materials to library users.
* Co-supervises student workers in consultation with the Night and Weekend Supervisor and head of unit.
* Monitors the public exits and door alarms as needed; may engage with patrons who set off these alarms.
* Provides support for library print and electronic reserve services.
* Processes incoming and returning materials from MU campus libraries, UM Libraries, and other MOBIUS libraries.
* Assists with borrowing cards applications; issue cards as appropriate.
* Opens/Closes the Checkout and Information Desk if needed, including set up of the circulation computers. May provide back-up to work different shifts, including night and/or weekend hours.
* Searches for missing materials, items claimed as returned, and other problem searches.
* May order supplies for department from Show Me Shop and elsewhere as needed. Completes required training.
* Performs other duties as assigned.

Shift

Tuesday - Friday: 8:00am-5:00pm; Saturdays: 10am--7:00pm

Minimum Qualifications

High school diploma or equivalent and at least 2 years of experience from which comparable knowledge and skills can be acquired is necessary.

Preferred Qualifications

* Bachelor's degree or an equivalent combination of education and experience.
* Six months of library experience. Directly related education or training may be substituted for experience.
* Supervisory experience.
* Excellent verbal and written communication skills; Ability to explain issues clearly and work to satisfactorily resolve problems.
* Strong interpersonal and customer service skills. Ability to work with others collaboratively and respectfully.
* Ability to exercise discretion and judgment including handling confidential patron information.
* Competence using computer software and equipment.
* This position requires some physical stamina and involves moving materials and related physical actions part of the workday. Must be able to move fully loaded book trucks (at least 200 lbs.). Must be able to read call numbers on books located on shelves at ground level and up to nine feet in height and where lighting is diminished; ladders and footstools are available.

Anticipated Hiring Range

Salary Range: $14.80 to $16.00 per hour

Grade: GGS-006
