Summary: The Automation Technician at Diamondback Energy is responsible for the installation, programming, troubleshooting, and maintenance of automation systems including PLCs, RTUs, and SCADA components. This role supports field operations by ensuring reliable and efficient automation of oil and gas production facilities. The technician will also perform loop checks, assist with instrumentation and electrical (I&E) tasks, and provide technical support to field personnel.

Summary:

The Automation Technician at Diamondback Energy is responsible for the installation, programming, troubleshooting, and maintenance of automation systems including PLCs, RTUs, and SCADA components. This role supports field operations by ensuring reliable and efficient automation of oil and gas production facilities. The technician will also perform loop checks, assist with instrumentation and electrical (I&E) tasks, and provide technical support to field personnel.

Job Duties and Responsibilities:

Include but are not limited to:

* Program, configure, and troubleshoot PLCs (Allen-Bradley, Schneider, etc.) and RTUs.

* Perform loop checks and verify signal integrity for instrumentation and control systems.

* Install, calibrate, and maintain field instrumentation including pressure, temperature, and flow transmitters.

* Support SCADA integration and ensure accurate data collection from field devices.

* Assist with commissioning of new automation systems and upgrades to existing infrastructure.

* Collaborate with I&E, Production, and Engineering teams to implement automation solutions.

* Maintain documentation of control logic, wiring diagrams, and system configurations.

* Conduct preventative maintenance and respond to automation-related field issues.

* Provide training and support to field operators on automation systems and interfaces.

* Participate in root cause analysis and continuous improvement initiatives.

Required Qualifications:

  • High school diploma or GED required; technical certification or associate degree in Automation, Instrumentation, or related field preferred.
  • Minimum 2 years of experience in automation, I&E, or SCADA systems in the oil and gas industry.
  • Working knowledge of PLC programming and troubleshooting.
  • Familiarity with loop diagrams, P&IDs, and control system architecture.
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office and industrial automation software.
  • Valid driver's license and ability to meet company driving standards.
  • Ability to work in field environments and respond to after-hours emergencies.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Self-starter capable of performing with minimal supervision
  • Good communication skills both verbal and written
  • Basic knowledge of PLC programming
  • Knowledge of Microsoft Sequel Data Bases
