Job Description

A DoD funded postdoctoral position is open in the area of organophosphate-based pesticide and nerve agent decontamination. Initial appointment for the position is for one year and is renewable for an additional year based on performance. This is a DoD funded postdoctoral position in the area of organophosphate-based pesticide and nerve agent decontamination. This project would impact on addressing the challenges posed by nerve-agent and pesticide toxicity.

Your duties involve conducting research on a DoD funded postdoctoral position in the area of organophosphate-based pesticide and nerve agent decontamination. You would be involved in the design, synthesis, and multi-nuclear, high-field NMR spectroscopic evaluation of the environmentally benign and non-toxic novel decontaminating agents for mitigation of pesticide and nerve-agent toxicity. The proposed small molecule and polymeric-materials based compounds would serve as relatively nontoxic alternatives to the conventionally used nerve agent- and pesticide-decontaminants, such as Dekon-139, and would lead to the design of self-decontaminating fibers and fabrics. You would be expected to collaborate with the research group members of the Pl and coordinate with the scientists from the Army Research Laboratories, prepare manuscripts for publication, write progress reports on the project, and prepare grant proposals. The expected outcomes of the research include publications in peer-reviewed journals, presentations at the regional and national ACS meetings, and develop nerve-agent/pesticide decontaminating agents for DoD and commercial applications. Strong synthetic organic chemistry and polymer chemistry skills are required for this position.
