THE POSITION

DESCRIPTION OF WORK


As a Utility Plant Operator, you will perform manual and skilled mechanical work in the operation, maintenance, and repair of a boiler plant at SCI Laurel Highlands. In addition to performing these duties, you will oversee and direct inmates assigned to this work crew. Our boiler operations include steam, hot water, chilled water, or electricity. Key job functions include monitoring boiler plant systems and making adjustments to ensure proper operation; keeping accurate records of fuel consumption and steam, hot water, or chilled water production; and recommending changes to procedures or equipment to increase plant efficiency. Work Schedule and Additional Information:

  • Full-time employment, 40 hours per week
  • Work hours will be determined at the time of hire.
  • Telework: You will not have the option to telework in this position.
  • Salary: Selected candidates who are new to employment with the Commonwealth of Pennsylvania will begin employment at the starting annual salary of 46,986.00 (before taxes).
  • This position is eligible for full retirement benefits at age 50 or 55.

REQUIRED EXPERIENCE, TRAINING & ELIGIBILITY

QUALIFICATIONS

Minimum Experience and Training Requirements:

  • Three years of experience in the operation, maintenance, and repair of a steam or hot water generating plant, or a steam and electric generating plant; or
  • An equivalent combination of experience and training.

Additional Requirements:

  • Successful completion of basic training in Elizabethtown, PA is required.
  • You must be able to perform essential job functions.

  • You must pass a background investigation and meet Criminal Justice Information Services (CJIS) compliance requirements.
