The Release of Information Specialist is responsible for daily processing of protected health information disclosures to health care providers, insurance companies, and government agencies including social security, and other entities for the purposes of continuing care, payment and health care operations. Must ensure that every release of information is in compliance with the request, authorization, company policy and federal and multiple state regulatory requirements for a psychiatric setting including Health Insurance Portability and Accountability Act (HIPAA) and accrediting agencies. This position must provide exceptional customer service. Operates under minimal supervision.
The Release of Information Specialist will also be responsible for maintenance of the Enterprise Master Patient Index (EMPI) by performing regular data quality/audit checks and by merging medical record numbers and/or moving documents to the correct FIN when appropriate. Job Duties & Responsibilities: 1. Sort, prioritize, prepare, and respond to all incoming requests via phone, fax, mail/email for Release of Information (ROI) utilizing Health Information Management (HIM) access in Cerner within department, state, federal and accrediting regulated time frames. 2. Validate whether requests require an authorization from the patient and/or parent/legal guardian or other patient representative. 3. Retrieve and prepare paper and/or electronic records for processing. 4. Validate each record for correct patient name and dates of requested information. 5. Data entry of request into electronic health record. Scan request into patient electronic health record. 6. Invoice request for medical records when applicable. 7. Send records via method the requested by requestor. 8. Answer phone calls and emails regarding status of requests or general questions. 9. Research, analyze, and resolution of discrepancies or issues with general and complex Enterprise Master Patient Index (EMPI) duplicates and patient overlay follow-ups timely and appropriately. 10. Troubleshoot and resolve MRN/FIN errors while demonstrating proper patient matching decisions. 11. Monitor, validate, and optimize data integrity EMPI issues by accountable party and associate action planning necessary for resolution. * Monday-Friday 8:00a-4:30p CST. May need to adjust hours to 6:00p CST when coverage is needed for regionals locations. * Potential hybrid work schedule to be determined by Health Information Leadership. * Training will be required onsite for your first 90 days. * Work/Training Location: 1860 Executive Dr. Oconomowoc, WI.
