The Air and Missile Defense Sector (AMDS) creates innovative solutions to our nation's most difficult challenges posed by evolving aircraft, missile, and surface threats. Our Cyber Engineers provide strategic thought-leadership and drive day-to-day research, innovation, and the application of cutting-edge cyber solutions needed to defend our nation's air and missile defense systems from cyber threats. Contribute to this mission by joining the technical and supervisory leadership of the A4J Cyber Dominance Group as the Cyber Integrated Solutions Section Supervisor. As the Cyber Integrated Solutions Section Supervisor, you will:
- Lead a section of cybersecurity engineers focused on secure design and integration for our sponsors. You will be instrumental in implementing Group strategy and developing highly motivated staff.
- Be a key leader and integral member of the group and will help define, implement, and analyze innovative concepts that meet our sponsor's most challenging problems.
- Interact with APL program management and Sponsors to identify and propose innovative solutions to existing and emerging cyber threats by actively contributing to the development of new ideas and proposals for future work (including internal investments and direct-funded S&T).
- Make appropriate connections to key personnel and champion collaborative efforts within the lab-wide cyber community of interest.
- Inspire and empower staff to continuously improve in all aspects of their careers.
- Communicate frequently with staff on aspects of their technical tasking and establish career development plans for each staff member.
- Ensure the Section has the appropriate competencies and resources needed to meet the needs of Sponsors and vision of the Cyber Dominance Group.
- Champion the growth of the Section to meet the demand brought about the rapid expansion of Air and Missile Defense system cybersecurity, and execute that growth by creating personnel requisitions, and then screen, interview, and recommend prospective employment candidates.
- Ensure the effective planning and execution of section tasking by working with task leaders and program management to establish priorities and gain valuable feedback on contributions of your staff.
- Interact frequently with Group management on all aspects of staff tasking, development, and performance, to include timely recognition and reclassification nominations for deserving staff members.
Qualifications
You meet our minimum qualifications for the job if you have...
- A Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Computer Engineering, Electrical Engineering, Systems Engineering, Mathematics, Cybersecurity, Computer Information Systems Security or related field
- At least 5 years of professional work experience
- At least 3 years of experience in cybersecurity engineering, systems engineering, concept development, resilient networking, analysis, or similar field
- At least 2 years of experience in concept, prototype, and production system development for a complex system
- Proven experience demonstrating technical leadership in systems engineering, architecture development, concept development, and integration
- Experience designing, deploying, administering, and maintaining cloud-based environments
- Strong interpersonal skills
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills
- Strong organizational and planning skills, with record of accomplishment in a team environment
- A demonstrated ability to effectively lead a team of technical staff in solving complex problems
- A demonstrated ability to mentor others and provide career guidance
- An active Secret security clearance and can ultimately obtain a Top Secret level clearance. If selected, you will be subject to a government security clearance investigation and must meet the requirements for access to classified information. Eligibility includes U.S. citizenship.

- A Master's degree or PhD Computer Science, Computer Engineering, Electrical Engineering, Systems Engineering, Mathematics, Cybersecurity, Computer Information Systems Security or related field
- Ten years of work experience with at least five years of relevant experience in systems engineering of AMD systems
- A strong understanding of Linux networking, administration, and security
- Demonstrated the ability to successfully engage and influence Air & Missile Defense sponsors, and other sponsors
- Demonstrated the ability to mentor and develop staff, and to cultivate strong relationships across organizational boundaries
- Special Working Conditions: Up to 25% local domestic travel to meet with sponsors, Navy labs, and contractors.

The referenced pay range is based on JHU APL's good faith belief at the time of posting. Actual compensation may vary based on factors such as geographic location, work experience, market conditions, education/training and skill level with consideration for internal parity. For salaried employees scheduled to work less than 40 hours per week, annual salary will be prorated based on the number of hours worked. APL may offer bonuses or other forms of compensation per internal policy and/or contractual designation. Additional compensation may be provided in the form of a sign-on bonus, relocation benefits, locality allowance or discretionary payments for exceptional performance.
