Job Summary: Provides leadership and oversight to the LVC Ground Engineering department globally. Provides guidance and direction through close coordination and oversight of functional managers. Establishes objectives and long-range goals of the engineering department that are consistent and in-line with that of the business. Ensures engineering department is appropriately staffed, correctly trained, embodies the appropriate talents and skillsets, has a sound succession plan and supports employee career planning. Provides engineering advice reporting directly to the Business Unit VP/GM. Supports the establishment of best practices and continuous improvement. Ensures that engineering policies are updated and relevant to today's Quality Management System (QMS) and are followed by the engineering organization. This position typically works under limited supervision and direction and incumbents of this position will regularly exercise discretionary and substantial decision-making authority.

Essential Job Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Provide leadership and direct engineering staff to support LVC Ground Business Unit programs
  • Ensures engineering staff follow engineering policies and work instructions, incorporate industry best practices and continuous improvement to the engineering department
  • Acts as liaison with other managers and customer representatives concerning projects, operational decisions, scheduling requirements, or contractual clarification
  • Participates in the performance evaluation process and recommends salary adjustments and personnel actions to include hiring, discipline, recognition and termination
  • Motivates, delegates, coaches and trains subordinates
  • Attends briefings and technical meetings for internal and external representatives, when necessary
  • Participates in customer contract negotiations, when necessary
  • Directs fact-finding in support of proposal development, to include cost and schedule estimates
  • Supports Engineering in the day-to-day activities of the organization including defining and implementing strategic technical direction, short- and long-term planning
  • Directs the continual developments of the organization in terms of personnel, training, process definition/execution, and discipline
  • Resolves conflicts/problems at all levels within engineering department, and other Cubic Business Unit's engineering departments
  • Ensure compliance to (international, domestic, customer) regulatory requirements
  • Monitor, track, and report on engineering department efficiency, engineering discipline specific metrics, regular product and project updates, and areas for improvement
  • Coordinates planning, organization, budgeting, and specifications of all engineering projects and assures timely and high-quality delivery

Minimum Job Requirements:

Four-year college degree, in engineering, or other related technical discipline plus minimum 15-years' related experience, with a minimum of ten years' supervisory experience. Must be a US citizen, eligible for DoD security clearance. Experience to include exercising creativity in technical direction and successful strategy development. Ability to interpret technical contract requirements. Ability to effectively communicate verbally, and in writing, and deal with employees and managers at all levels in, engineering and other functional organizations. Must be able to demonstrate the mental agility to work in a functional/matrix organization. Ability to travel both domestically and internationally. Ability to interface with customers, subcontractors, vendors, and deal with employees and managers at all levels both within and outside of the engineering organization. Must be able to work and supervise team engineers under demanding project deadlines and associated cost and schedule constraints. Must be able to travel up to 50%.

Cubic Pay Range:

$195,122.00 - $238,483.00 + benefits.

The Cubic pay range for this job level is a general guideline only and not a guarantee of compensation or salary. Additional factors considered in extending an offer include (but are not limited to) responsibilities of the job, education, experience, knowledge, skills, and abilities, as well as internal equity, alignment with market data, applicable bargaining agreement (if any), or other law.
