ISO New England is the independent system operator responsible for ensuring the safe and reliable flow of electricity in our region and planning for the future of the electric grid. We are at the forefront of New England's ongoing transition to clean energy.

We are currently seeking a Network Engineer to support and expand our energy market network deployments. The ideal candidate is passionate about technology and uses their knowledge and creativity to solve interesting technical challenges. This position works with a multi-disciplinary team of experienced and dedicated engineers to maintain and administer the company's software-defined networks and multi-site physical network deployments. This role will be crucial in accomplishing key strategic IT improvement projects.

In this role you will plan and execute network improvements and technology rollouts. You will be responsible for the operational maintenance of computer networks, hardware, software, and other related systems. In addition, you will be performing disaster recovery operations, protecting data, software, and hardware from attacks, replacing faulty network hardware components, and working with stakeholders to solve technical problems.

How you will make an impact:


  • Perform daily maintenance and troubleshooting of issues, escalating to more senior resources where appropriate
  • Maintain network infrastructure by working on vendor support requests, correcting configuration issues, and performing vulnerability analysis and patching
  • Manage network policy changes using change management workflows and GitOps
  • Utilize Asset Management Workflows to perform network adds/changes/retirements
  • Perform network performance troubleshooting and triage of emerging network issues

What you need to be successful in this role:


  • Bachelor's degree in information technology, computer science, computer engineering, or related field of study with a network engineering focus. Additional years of experience may be considered in lieu of a degree.
  • Strong foundational knowledge of networking concepts: TCP/IP, DNS, DHCP, VLANs, routing protocols (e.g., OSPF, BGP), switching, and subnetting.
  • Familiarity with enterprise network hardware (Cisco, Juniper, Aruba, etc.).
  • Understanding of firewall concepts, VPN technologies, and general network security best practices.
  • Basic familiarity with network monitoring tools and packet analyzers (e.g., Wireshark, SolarWinds).
  • Demonstrated analytical, problem-solving, communication and customer service skills.
  • Desired, but not required:

    • One or more relevant certifications such as CompTIA Network+, CompTIA Security+, AWS Cloud Practitioner, Cisco CCNA
    • Exposure to cloud networking in AWS and/or Azure environments is a strong plus.
    • Internship or lab experience in network support or infrastructure
