Operations Manager I

ChampionX has an immediate need for a Operations Manager located in Odessa, TX. This is your opportunity to join a growing company offering a competitive base salary and benefits. The Operations Manager is responsible for overseeing the daily operations of a batch specialty chemical manufacturing plant, ensuring efficiency, safety, and compliance with industry regulations. This role involves managing a team of approximately 3 direct reports and 25 indirect reports, optimizing production processes, and driving continuous improvement initiatives.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Production Oversight: Develop and implement production plans to meet business and market demands.

  • Team Leadership: Supervise, mentor, and develop direct and indirect reports to enhance performance and engagement.

  • Process Optimization: Monitor batch cycle times, equipment capacity, and yield tracking to maximize efficiency.

  • Safety & Compliance: Ensure adherence to OSHA, environmental, and PSM & RMP regulations, conducting risk assessments and implementing corrective actions.

  • Quality Assurance: Maintain high product quality standards, troubleshooting deviations and implementing SOP improvements.

  • Budget & Inventory Management: Oversee plant operations and maintenance budgets, manage in-plant inventory, and ensure cost-effective production.

  • Continuous Improvement: Drive process enhancements, implement CI initiatives, and foster synergy between production, maintenance, SHE, quality and logistics teams.

Qualifications & Experience:

  • Bachelor's degree in Chemical Engineering, Industrial Engineering, or related field.

  • 5+ years of experience in manufacturing.

  • Strong knowledge of SHE and regulatory compliance.

  • Proven leadership experience managing cross-functional teams in a manufacturing environment.

  • Excellent problem-solving, communication, and organizational skills.

Safety-Sensitive Position:
This role is classified as a safety-sensitive position. The Production Manager must be able to perform job duties in a manner that ensures the safety of themselves and others within compliance to all applicable ISO requirements. This includes operating in compliance with all safety protocols, wearing appropriate PPE, and maintaining situational awareness in a chemical manufacturing environment.

Physical Requirements:

While performing the essential functions and/or job responsibilities of this job, the employee is regularly required to talk and hear. This position is very active and requires standing, walking, bending, kneeling, stooping, crouching, crawling, and climbing throughout the shift. The employee must frequently lift and/or move items over 50 pounds. Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, distance vision, color vision, peripheral vision, depth perception and ability to adjust focus. The physical demands described here are representative of those that must be by an incumbent to successfully perform the essential functions and/or job responsibilities of this job.

  • Ability to move throughout all areas of the facility.

  • Stand and/or sit continuously and perform essential functions and/or job responsibilities for a full shift.

  • Required to use hands to finger, handle or feel; and reach with hands and arms.

  • Physically able to walk, stand, bend, stoop, kneel, reach, twist, lift, push, pull, climb, balance, crouch, handle and move items weighing over50 lbs.without assistance.

  • Visual acuity corrected to perform job functions. Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, distance vision, color vision, peripheral vision, depth perception and ability to adjust focus.

  • While performing the duties of this role, the incumbent will be required to talk and hear.

  • May be required to enter confined spaces.

  • May be required to work at elevated heights

Work Environment:

  • This position is based in a chemical manufacturing plant.

  • Exposure to noise, chemical odors, and industrial equipment is expected.

The role may require occasional extended hours, weekend work, or on-call availability to support production needs
