The mission of Laboratory Animal Resources (
LAR) is to provide
NCSU faculty with optimal animal resources at the least practical cost. The term "animal resources" includes not only animal housing facilities but also animal husbandry services, veterinary care, technical services, expertise in laboratory animal technology and medicine, and assurance of compliance with regulatory requirements and institutional policies for animal care and use.
LAR is responsible for assisting faculty in conducting animal experimentation in keeping with these standards and is committed to assuring the well-being of experimental animals while providing services that facilitate their humane and reasonable use.

Essential Job Duties |
Love animals and want to make a real difference? Join our team! We're looking for a dedicated and compassionate individual to help care for animals that play a vital role in scientific discovery and teaching. In this hands-on role, you'll be part of a team that ensures the health, well-being, and comfort of our research animals every day.
What you'll do:
- Provide daily care and enrichment to a variety of animals-ensuring they live in a clean, safe, and engaging environment
- Administer routine medications and help prepare special diets tailored to the needs of individual research animals
- Keep the facility spotless by following essential sanitation and safety protocols
- Maintain detailed records including animal counts, daily care logs, and medical treatment notes
- Help transport animals safely between locations
- Be part of our essential staff-this role may include weekend or holiday shifts to ensure consistent care
You'll thrive in this role if you're a strong communicator who enjoys working closely with a variety of people-from researchers and faculty to fellow team members. You should be comfortable lifting up to 50 lbs (with or without a reasonable accomodation) and excited about the opportunity to care for a varied range of research and lab animals, each with their own unique needs.

Other Responsibilities |
- Keep detailed, up-to-date records to ensure every animal gets the care they need and nothing slips through the cracks
- Provide daily care and attention to a wide variety of species-helping them stay healthy, happy, and thriving
- Give routine medications with care, making sure each animal is comfortable and properly treated
- Support a clean, safe environment by following high standards for sanitation and safety-because their well-being depends on it

- Prior professional experience in mouse colony management
- Experience with inventory control and maintenance
- Experience in animal husbandry
- Wide variety of species care (especially livestock/poultry/aquatics)
AALAS certifications
