Job Overview
We are seeking a dedicated and experienced Director of Nursing to lead our nursing team in delivering exceptional care within our facility. The ideal candidate will possess strong leadership skills, a deep understanding of nursing practices, and a commitment to maintaining high standards of patient care. This role is crucial in ensuring compliance with healthcare regulations and fostering a collaborative environment among nursing staff.

An exempt position with 24 hours accountability, responsible for managing the daily operations and nursing care in line with clinical practice standards of units they are assigned. The Director of Nursing (DON) is responsible for nursing staff and related medical support staff including RNs and MHAs.

Responsibilities

  • Ensures compliance with standard of care for all nursing areas in compliance with Joint Commission, CMS, Department of Mental Health, etc. Is responsible to correct reported deficiencies within specified time table for the reporting departments as directed by the Chief Nursing Officer (CNO).

  • Maintains Department Quality Improvement Program to ensure excellent patient care. Reports QI information to CNO monthly.

  • Participates in the implementation and evaluation of nursing division mission, planning and direction actively monitors and

    ensures compliance in the absence of the CNO.

  • Collaborates with other disciplines to develops/maintains patient care programs assuring patient care standards

    of care/practice are developed and maintained.

  • Maintains effective collaborative working relationships with Medical Staff

    Program Directors and Clinical Department Heads to affect positive patient outcomes.

  • Demonstrates problem-solving approach in resolving problems with other departments and clinicians as indicated by satisfaction

    of all parties.

  • Participates in Hospital committees and task forces, contributing clinical expertise and improved departmental policy/s as

    demonstrated by meeting minutes and outcomes.

  • Maintains effective working relationships with other departments and clinicians.

  • Oversees and monitors patient care delivery at department level to ensure that patient needs are met by oversight of

    staffing/clinical Program Managers.

    -Provides administrative oversight to Program Managers as they develop clean, safe, therapeutic environments and

    effectively negotiates with other departments to needed repairs and support services.

    - Reviews critical clinical/administrative issues with Program Managers and key hospital departments; and develops a plan

    to resolve issues rapidly & effectively.

  • Develops, implements and improved patient care model/s which results in a better therapeutic milieu. Patient care standards will be developed and monitored which will measure the impact of the patient care model/s in such variables as reductions in restraints, increased patient satisfaction and compliance with group's programming schedule.

  • Monitors and is actively involved with admissions, discharges, and monitoring LOC.

  • Meets regularly with Nursing Leadership to identify problems and strategies; and to affect changes in patient

    care/management issues.

  • Communicates changes in goals, procedures, plans activities of the Nursing and other responsible departments effectively.

Qualifications

Education: Graduate of an accredited school of nursing; Bachelor of Science required, Masters in Nursing or related field preferred

License/Cert: Current licensure to practice as a Registered Nurse in the Commonwealth of Massachusetts

Experience/Cert: Previous psychiatric or behavioral health experience preferred; board certification preferred; 7-10 years of broad clinical and administrative experience in mental health and/or acute care facility previous leadership

Other: Fluent in reading, writing and speaking English, competent to practice with all ages of patients. Demonstrates ability to function as part of interdisciplinary team. Supervisor responsibility when Charge Nurse or acting in supervisor capacity.

ON GOING REQUIREMENTS:

Education: Annual mandatory trainings including CPR, safety, restraint care, medical management, and annual education/skills fair. Attend and participate regularly in in-service training and education and staff meetings; continuously

Licensure/Cert: Current RN licensure, CPR: and CEUS to maintain licensure; CPHQ certification preferred, NE-BC or NEA-BC or CENP preferred
