Job Summary:

The Assistant Manager, Accounting will perform daily and monthly duties in general accounting, statutory accounting, program accounting, accounts payable/receivable, treasury, reinsurance, or needed functions within the department. Additional responsibilities include ensuring accurate and timely recording of data in the accounting systems, assisting management and others in making educated economic decisions about the Company's future, and safeguarding financial operations and assets by continuously meeting reporting, filing, and control requirements. The Assistant Manager, Accounting will be responsible for these aspects throughout the Company's shared services model and direct the work of one or more staff.

Duties and Responsibilities:



  • Continuously exhibit and uphold Core Values of Integrity, Accountability, Communication and Teamwork, Innovation and Customer Service


  • Oversee all aspects of one or more functions within the Finance department, including all service deliverables. Examples include reinsurance accounting, taxes & assessment, and accounts payable/receivable
  • Establish strategy/vision, goals/targets, and key performance indicators to reflect successful performance and continuous improvement within the assigned departmental function
  • Support and enhance the department's shared services direction and strategy
  • Implement policies and procedures to enforce internal controls, including Sarbanes Oxley responsibility across multiple areas
  • Perform daily and monthly management reporting, analysis, and communication of performance results to internal stakeholders including immediate team and department leadership


  • Provide technical accounting research and application, to include supporting all


shared services entities and regulatory reporting/compliance requirements



  • Oversee monthly and quarterly account reconciliations and ledger maintenance
  • Effectively manage performance and development of direct reports
  • Assist in the recruitment and development of accounting and finance employees to support long-term management strategy, goals, and objectives



Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:



  • Understanding of generally accepted accounting principles
  • Strong knowledge of successful accounting operations and internal control processes
  • Working GAAP knowledge and strong general and subsidiary ledger skills (accounts payable, accounts receivable, payroll, etc.)
  • Statutory financial reporting knowledge and/or experience with regulatory annual filing compliance strongly preferred
  • Working familiarity with enterprise-level financial systems and data architectures
  • Ability to cultivate and manage internal and external relationships, including management, business partners, regulators, and suppliers
  • Intermediate to expert level proficiency in MS Office (Word, Excel, Outlook, PowerPoint, etc.) as well as comfort in working with numerous other financial systems (TCP, Anaplan, URS, GL PRO, etc.)
  • Ability to identify and make process and procedure improvement recommendations
  • Ability to manage, motivate, and develop others
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills

Experience and Education:

Assistant Manager, Accounting



  • Bachelor's degree in accounting, finance or related required; Master's degree preferred
  • Minimum of six years of hands-on accounting experience with GAAP or statutory accounting required
  • CPA designation strongly preferred
  • Knowledge of insurance operations and/or specific functional operations is preferred
  • Experience in a highly-regulated and/or financial services environment is preferred
  • Prior management experience preferred



Senior Accountant



  • Bachelor's Degree in accounting, finance or related required
  • CPA designation strongly preferred
  • Six years' experience in corporate and/or public accountancy or finance roles required
  • Four years of hands-on accounting experience within the Property and Casualty Insurance industry strongly preferred
