Job Description

The Senior Research Specialist will assist in ongoing research projects to study the molecular and cellular mechanisms of inflammation in cardiovascular disease. This includes performing duties to facilitate day to day functions of the laboratory including routine tasks like ordering supplies, preparing solutions, maintenance of equipment, transgenic mouse colony management, and record keeping. The Research Specialist will also perform various molecular, biochemical, cellular and physiological techniques including animal surgeries such as transaortic constriction and myocardial infarction surgeries in mice, physiological experiments such as blood pressure monitoring and echocardiography, primary cardiomyocyte and immune cell culture, RT-PCR, cloning, histology, western blotting and flow cytometry to contribute to ongoing research projects in the laboratory.

Shift

Monday through Friday, 8am- 5pm weekly. Occasional weekend duties.

Minimum Qualifications

Bachelor's degree and at least 2 years of experience from which comparable knowledge and skills can be acquired.

Preferred Qualifications

Candidate should possess the following skills and abilities-

  • More than 2 years working with transgenic mice
  • Surgical experience in microvascular or cardiac surgeries desired
  • Previous experience involving molecular biology techniques such as PCR and western blot is preferred.
  • Ability to function independently and as part of a team
  • Excellent organizational and communication skills
  • Desire and ability to learn new procedural skills
Anticipated Hiring Range

The anticipated hiring range for this position has been established as $53,000- $60,000 annually.

Salary is determined by a variety of factors, including but not limited to, the individual's particular combination of education, skills, and experience, as well as organizational requirements. Your total compensation goes beyond the number on your paycheck. The University of Missouri provides generous leave, health plans, and retirement contributions that add to your bottom line.
