DEPARTMENT OVERVIEW

Join the Residential, Retail and Supply Chain Services (RRSS) team at UC San Diego, a dynamic and innovative campus department dedicated to delivering exceptional service to the university community. As a valued RRSS team member, you will be contributing to a broad and complex organization consisting of five key units: Housing, Dining and Hospitality (HDH), Integrated Procure-to-Pay Solutions (IPPS), the UC San Diego Bookstore, Triton Print & Digital Media, and the Early Childhood Education Center (ECEC). With a focus on innovation and customer satisfaction, RRSS aims to inclusively meet the diverse needs of the UC San Diego community while fostering a sense of belonging for our students and staff.

POSITION DESCRIPTION

Under the supervision of the ECEC Director and Program Coordinator, receive work direction from Lead Teachers (CDC Teacher II) in the planning and implementation of daily curriculum of all aspects of a quality program for children aged three months to five years. Work closely with Lead Teacher to maintain program quality, adhering to State Licensing regulations title 22, developmental profiles for all children and the National Association for the Education of Young Children Accreditation Standards. Plan, prepare and implement age-appropriate activities in daily curriculum areas such as: language, art, dramatic play, multicultural and social justice awareness, manipulative toys, block play, problem solving, science, nutrition and outdoor play. Observe and document using current assessment tools. Constantly monitor safety factors and required adult-child ratios. Create and maintain a warm and positive classroom environment which is inclusive and promotes mutual respect. Acknowledge and respect the integrity of each child and encourage the development of positive self-image to allow the child to explore and learn comfortably and successfully.

Assist children with hygiene (washing, diapering, toileting); monitor health needs of children and assist with meal/snack service. Monitor adult and child working areas to ensure they are safe, sanitary, and orderly. Maintain best practices to always ensure visual observation of children at all times to prevent children from being left unsupervised or from leaving the center. Follow established health & safety procedures for handling emergencies as identified in the ECEC Handbook. Interact with parents daily; give brief reports of child's experience in pertinent areas, schedule and conduct regular Parent-Teacher conferences to maintain open communication and rapport with parents. Assist the Lead Teacher in documenting child attendance records, correspondence, child observation notes, lesson plans, accident reports and assessments.

QUALIFICATIONS
  • Experience working with children aged three months to five years in a formal childcare environment such as but not limited to providing nanny services, care giving skills, camp counseling with younger children, etc.

  • Educational background such as, but not limited to: Psychology, Language Arts, and Human Development. A combination of work related experience and educationalbackground is acceptable.

  • Experience assisting with the implementation of age-appropriate developmental classroom activities for the three months to five year old child, such as but not limited to: literacy, dance, art, music, nutrition, science and outdoor activities, etc.

  • Experience performing light housekeeping, soiled clothes changes and diapering duties.

  • Understanding of Health and Safety issues as it relates to the classroom and the childcare environment.

  • Knowledge of various emergency response procedures. Ability to act quickly, calmly, and appropriately in hazardous situations.

  • Ability to relate to children as individuals and in small and large groups.

  • Ability to work with and be sensitive to a culturally diverse community.

  • Ability to make sound judgments in all childcare situations.

  • Demonstrated strong interpersonal skills, a positive attitude and ability to accomplish goals. Ability to communicate effectively with people of many diverse backgrounds including parents, children, teachers, staff, and faculty.

  • Ability to read, write and speak English to be understood by young children. Ability to communicate effectively in person, in writing and electronically, when necessary.

  • Ability to model and advocate UCSD Principles of Community.

  • Demonstrates competency and commitment to equity, diversity, and inclusion.

SPECIAL CONDITIONS
  • Must possess and maintain current First Aid/CPR Certification showing satisfactory completion of pediatric first-aid training, including managing a blocked airway and providing rescue breathing for infants and children.

  • Must possess and maintain current TB Clearance and Health Screening Report.

  • Must possess and maintain current immunization record to include evidence of current immunization for influenza, pertussis and measles.

  • FBI/Dept. of Justice Livescan background check and clearance with association through Community Care.

  • Licensing required prior to hire.

  • Physical ability to lift up to 40 pounds as necessary.

Education/Permit Requirement:

  • Must possess and maintain the Child Development Teacher Permit level credential or above from the State of California Commission on Teacher Credentialing.

  • Must show proof of completion of three college level units of Infant/Toddler coursework OR enroll in coursework that would meet this requirement within 4 months of hire and successfully earn those credits within 12 months of hire.

This position meets the requirements for a mandated reporter under CANRA. CANRA Mandated Reporter: This position has been identified as a Mandated Reporter pursuant to the California Child Abuse and Neglect Reporting Act and requires immediate reporting of physical abuse, sexual abuse, emotional abuse, or neglect of anyone under the age of 18.

Pay Transparency Act

Annual Full Pay Range: $47,586 - $66,691 (will be prorated if the appointment percentage is less than 100%)

Hourly Equivalent: $22.79 - $31.94

Factors in determining the appropriate compensation for a role include experience, skills, knowledge, abilities, education, licensure and certifications, and other business and organizational needs. The Hiring Pay Scale referenced in the job posting is the budgeted salary or hourly range that the University reasonably expects to pay for this position. The Annual Full Pay Range may be broader than what the University anticipates to pay for this position, based on internal equity, budget, and collective bargaining agreements (when applicable).
