ASSIGNMENT DETAILS

UC San Diego is hiring a temporary Part-Time Shipping and Receiving Clerk to provide logistical support to our sea-going vessels and global operations for Science at Sea.

Duration: This role is anticipated to last three months

Compensation: $25.00/hour. Eligible for paid holidays and vacation/sick leave. Full-medical insurance also available.

Work Schedule: Part-Time, 2-3 days/week (Days, 8 hrs/day, Monday - Friday)

Location: 100% on-site in Point Loma

DESCRIPTION
  • Receive incoming parcels and verify contents against shipping documents.
  • Consolidate parcels and prepare them for shipment.
  • Operate a forklift to transport pallets to vessels within the facility.
  • Help with outbound shipments to vessels located off-site, including international destinations.
  • Maintain accurate shipping and receiving records.
  • Communicate and coordinate closely with the Shop Superintendent and Marine Purchaser to ensure timely and accurate deliveries.
  • Ensure compliance with safety and shipping regulations.
  • Keep Shipping and Receiving area organized.
  • Be able and willing to complete onsite forklift training if not already forklift certified.
QUALIFICATIONS
  • Working knowledge of shipping and receiving. Experience and knowledge of Fed-Ex database and shipping processes as well as other shipping methods, including international shipments.

  • Knowledge of UPS, Fed-Ex, and common freight carriers; freight/shipping terms; and freight documentation.

  • Ability to safely operate various kinds of material handling and warehouse equipment including electric and manual pallet jacks, hand trucks, carts, forklifts.

  • Effective communication skills with ability to interact with a diverse group of people using tact, courtesy, and cooperation.

  • Physical ability to handle large quantities of merchandise on a daily basis and to lift and carry packages weighing up to 75 pounds.

  • Ability to climb ladders, stoop, squat, kneel and stand for prolonged periods of time.

SPECIAL CONDITIONS
  • Be able and willing to complete onsite forklift training at no cost if not already forklift certified.

Pay Transparency Act

Annual Full Pay Range: $43,952 - $53,557 (will be prorated if the appointment percentage is less than 100%)

Hourly Equivalent: $21.05 - $25.65

Factors in determining the appropriate compensation for a role include experience, skills, knowledge, abilities, education, licensure and certifications, and other business and organizational needs. The Hiring Pay Scale referenced in the job posting is the budgeted salary or hourly range that the University reasonably expects to pay for this position. The Annual Full Pay Range may be broader than what the University anticipates to pay for this position, based on internal equity, budget, and collective bargaining agreements (when applicable).
