Summary of Position: |
The Ferris State University Art Gallery seeks a motivated and detail-oriented individual to work up to 28 hours per week to support the Director in managing both the Fine Arts Gallery and the Card Wildlife Education Center. The areas of responsibility will be to: Assist with planning and executing exhibitions and events/receptions Design and coordinate printed materials Support transportation, installation, and deinstallation of artwork and exhibition materials Serve as a gallery docent and engage with visitors Perform general clerical and administrative tasks Assist with inventory management and custom framing of artwork and collection items This position requires flexible hours, including evenings and weekends for events.
The anticipated start date for this position is September of 2025. However, this is an estimated date and can be revised if needed. |

Required Education: |
College coursework in art, art history or biological sciences.

Experience involving a gallery or museum setting. Experience or proficiency in Adobe Photoshop, Illustrator, or similar design software. Experience with handling art objects. Social media experience. Audio/Visual content creation. Event organization/management. Supervisory experience Experience with tracking expenses. |

Essential Duties/Responsibilities: |
Designing and ordering printed material for exhibitions. Assist with all programs including exhibits, receptions, and educational programming. Act as gallery docent in the gallery and Card Center. Organize and install exhibits. Oversite of student employee's daily work. General clerical work and inventory and collection management. Assist with framing operations. Reports to the Gallery Director. Operate university motor or personal vehicles safely while carrying out job responsibilities. Cultivates an environment of belonging that values, respects, supports, and celebrates individual similarities and differences, allowing students, faculty and staff to thrive authentically. Support, promote, and develop university student enrollment and retention initiatives. Any other duties assigned within the position classification area. |

Skills and Abilities: |
Ability to transport artwork. Operate a motor vehicle for artwork transportation. Exhibit sound judgement; establish positive relationships with faculty, staff, students, and the general public. Communicate effectively both orally and in writing. Follow safe practices as directed and trained. Experience working directly with people from diverse racial, ethnic, and socioeconomic backgrounds. |
