Job Description: The Director, Experience Design and Content will lead both experience design and content teams in ushering a groundbreaking transformation of NextGen Healthcare's products and platforms, fundamentally reimagining how providers interact with healthcare technology. As the architect of our user experience vision, you'll drive design strategies that shape every touchpoint across our ecosystem, creating intuitive, AI-powered experiences that make technology invisible and healthcare more human.
Strategic Leadership
- Define and execute a unified vision for user experience and content strategy across our entire portfolio.
- Partner with product, engineering, and clinical teams to embed design thinking into every stage of our development lifecycle.
- Champion the voice of our users ensuring every design decision ladders up to better healthcare outcomes.
- Guide and lead a team of product designers, UX researchers, writers, editors and content strategists.
- Establish design systems and content frameworks that scale across our solutions portfolio.
Transformational Impact
- Lead the experience design for our AI-powered innovations, ensuring technology amplifies rather than replaces the human touch in healthcare.
- Architect content strategies that transform complex medical workflows into intuitive, delightful experiences.
- Drive the evolution from documentation-centric to conversation-centric interfaces, leveraging our ambient AI capabilities.
- Create experiences that reduce provider burnout by eliminating friction and administrative burden.
Organizational Excellence
- Foster a culture of design excellence, innovation, and continuous learning.
- Develop and implement metrics that connect design decisions to clinical outcomes and provider satisfaction.
- Build strategic partnerships across R&D to ensure design thinking permeates our entire organization.
- Present design vision and strategy to executive leadership, board members, and key stakeholders.
- Manage departmental budgets, resource allocation, and talent development strategies.
Content Architecture Leadership
- Define and maintain our brand voice across all touchpoints, from micro-copy to comprehensive documentation.
- Lead content strategy for our 30+ specialty-specific solutions, ensuring consistency while honoring unique workflows.
- Oversee creation of product documentation, release notes, user guides, and educational content.
- Partner with marketing to ensure product messaging aligns with user experience reality.
- Implement content governance frameworks that scale with our rapid innovation cycles.
Perform other duties that support the overall objective of the position.
Education Required:
- Bachelor's degree in Design, HCI, Psychology, or related field; Master's preferred
- Or, any combination of education and experience which would provide the required qualifications for the position.
Experience Required:
- 10+ years of experience in UX/product design leadership, with at least 5 years managing design teams.
- Proven track record of building and scaling design organizations in B2B SaaS or healthcare technology.
- Experience leading content strategy and UX writing teams in complex, regulated environments.
- Portfolio showcasing transformational design work that improved key metrics (user satisfaction, efficiency, adoption).
- Experience with accessibility standards and inclusive design practices.
Preferred:
- Healthcare industry experience, particularly in ambulatory or specialty care settings.
- Experience with voice interfaces, conversational AI, or ambient computing.
- Background in change management or organizational transformation.
- Published thought leadership in design, healthcare technology, or related fields.
Knowledge, Skills & Abilities:
- Knowledge of:Deep expertise in human-centered design methodologies, service design, and design thinking facilitation. Expert knowledge of modern design tools (Figma, Miro, UserZoom, etc.). Understanding of AI/ML implications for user experience design. Familiarity with healthcare workflows, EHR systems, and clinical documentation. Knowledge of agile development methodologies and how design integrates with engineering.
