Description

Utilizing independent judgment, the Operations Engineer provides technical support to the Operations, Quality and Metallurgy Departments and customers for all phases of steel operations. This position will service both Ellwood Quality Steels Company and Ellwood National Steel Company and will work with Operations to ensure good procedures are in place; optimizes steelmaking operations for best-in-class safety, efficiency and quality and provide metallurgical support to management personnel.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS



  • P
  • Provides technical support for all phases of steel operations including refractories, melting, teeming and annealing steel ingots.
  • Ensures that Operations follow established procedures and sound metallurgical practices.
  • Lead or support projects for quality improvement, cost reduction and productivity enhancement in the refractories, melting and teeming areas
  • Participates with investigations of quality and operating problems identifying root cause and corrective actions
  • Works closely with Melter Supervisors, Lead Melter and Operations or General Manager to optimize practices.
  • Fills in for Melter Supervisors and Lead Melter when necessary
  • Travel to other facilities and conferences to identify new technologies and practices to proactively implement at ENS.
  • Abides by all policies and procedures established by the Company including plant safety regulations and work rules.
  • Must have ability and desire to work and collaborate with others.
  • Meets attendance requirements.
  • Performs other functions as deemed necessary.


EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE

EDUCATION



  • Bachelor of Science in Metallurgy or Material Science preferred, or a commensurate level of related experience and education


EXPERIENCE:



  • Minimum 3-5 years' experience with steel processes/products including EAF operations


DRIVING:



  • Required to have an active and valid driver's license, or the ability to travel and commute as required, and comply with the Motor Vehicle Safety Program.
