About the Position:

In an exciting and challenging environment, the Operations Engineer provides technical support to the Operations, Quality and Metallurgy Departments and customers for all phases of steel operations. This position will service Ellwood Quality Steels Company and collaborate with Ellwood National Steel Company and will work with Operations to ensure good procedures are in place; optimizes steelmaking operations for best-in-class safety, efficiency and quality and provide metallurgical support to management personnel.

What You'll Do:



  • Provide technical support for all phases of steel operations including refractories, melting, teeming and annealing steel ingots.
  • Ensure that Operations follow established procedures and sound metallurgical practices.
  • Lead or support projects for quality improvement, cost reduction and productivity enhancement in the refractories, melting and teeming areas
  • Participate with investigations of quality and operating problems identifying root cause and corrective actions
  • Work closely with Melter Supervisors, Lead Melter and Manager of Steelmaking operations to optimize practices.
  • Fill in for Melter Supervisors and Lead Melters when necessary
  • Travel to other facilities and conferences to identify new technologies and practices to proactively implement at EQS.
  • Abide by all policies and procedures established by the Company including plant safety regulations and work rules.
  • Must have ability and desire to work and collaborate with others.
  • Meet attendance requirements.
  • Perform other functions as deemed necessary.


What You'll Need:



  • Bachelor of Science in Metallurgy or Material Science preferred, or a commensurate level of related experience and education


  • Minimum 3-5 years' experience with steel processes/products including EAF operations
  • Commitment to safety
  • Ability and willingness to travel, when necessary
  • Valid driver's license
  • Strong problem solving/analytical skills
  • Must be able to work with types of people
  • Good verbal and written communication skills
  • Strong work ethic
  • Willingness to learn

    Qualifications
    Education
    Bachelors of Material Science Engineer (preferred)
    Experience
    3 years: Experience with steel processes/products, including EAF Operations (required)
