Description
SUMMARY

This position is responsible for leading all functions related to production, printing, delivery, distribution, and circulation for AMPP magazines, newsletters, and scholarly journal in print and digital formats ensuring maximum efficiency and the timely, accurate, and economical delivery of all publishing products. In addition, the role develops strategies to grow and retain audiences across print and digital platforms, using analytics, engagement tactics, and partnerships to increase visibility and readership.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES include the following. Other duties may be assigned.




  • Developing and managing production schedules for magazines, newsletters, and journal.
  • Scheduling and leading pre- and post-production meetings with publishing staff.
  • Providing production status updates and making recommendations to ensure cost effective and timely delivery of products.
  • Identifying and managing magazines, newsletter, and journal manufacturing and distribution contracts/agreements with third party suppliers.
  • Overseeing media advertising coordination and journal manuscript production processes/workflow.
  • Negotiating and attaining pricing quotes and estimated material delivery deadlines and collaborating with Senior Director of Media and Publishing and Senior Sales Manager to determine ancillary products/special advertising pricing.
  • Developing, managing, and monitoring production and circulation expense budgets.
  • Managing print orders, overseeing product quality, auditing invoices, and developing cost recap reports.
  • Maintaining up to date knowledge of postal requirements to ensure compliance with regulations and ensuring the most economic and accurate delivery methods.
  • Overseeing circulation and audience growth strategies to increase readership, engagement, and visibility of branded publication products.
  • Gathering, analyzing, and reporting on audience and circulation data (e.g., KPIs, engagement metrics, benchmarks) to inform strategic decisions and optimize distribution practices.
  • Collaborating with marketing, social media and editorial teams to execute audience acquisition and retention campaigns, including traffic acquisition, segmentation, and subscriber development.
  • Coordinating subscription fulfillment, data management, and audit reporting (e.g., BPA), ensuring accuracy and compliance.
  • Developing and analyzing production expense, product usage and traffic, content engagement and circulation reports, and customer/stakeholder feedback to continuously refine production and distribution practices.


SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITIES

Carries out supervisory responsibilities in accordance with the organization's policies and applicable laws. Responsibilities include interviewing, hiring, and training employees; planning, assigning, and directing work; appraising performance; rewarding and disciplining employees; addressing complaints and resolving problems.

TRAVEL REQUIREMENTS

Some travel is expected for this role.



EDUCATION and/or EXPERIENCE

Bachelor's Degree in Journalism, Communications, or related field; minimum of six (6) years' work experience with demonstrated success in magazine/journal production, hands-on working knowledge of Microsoft Office, desktop publishing, and other relevant software needed in a publications production environment.



LANGUAGE SKILLS

Ability to read, analyze, and interpret general business periodicals, professional journals, technical procedures, or governmental regulations. Ability to write reports, business correspondence, and procedure manuals. Ability to effectively present information and respond to questions from groups of managers, members, employees of the organization, customers, and the general public.



MATHEMATICAL SKILLS

Ability to calculate figures and amounts such as discounts, interest, commissions, etc. Ability to apply concepts such as fractions, percentages, ratios, and proportions to practical situations. Ability to develop and interpret business graphs.



REASONING ABILITY

Ability to solve practical problems and deal with a variety of concrete variables in situations where only limited standardization exists. Ability to interpret a variety of instructions furnished in written, verbal, diagram, or schedule form.



OTHER SKILLS and ABILITIES

Must possess a specific level of communication skill both verbal and written. Have demonstrated personnel management skills including, but not limited to, the ability to evaluate staff performance and provide direction, is highly desirable. Ability to work in a multi-task environment taking into account various external factors and to communicate efficiently and accurately to both managers/supervisors and subordinate staff.

Must be computer literate with knowledge and experience in word processing and spreadsheet software's. Ability to learn and use association specific software.
