Location: Kanab, Utah Hiring Range: This position's hiring range is anticipated to be $17 to $19 per hour, depending on experience, plus great benefits! Interviews will occur weekly until the position is filled. Position Summary: The General Landscaper -Tier 1 assists in the maintenance of the landscaped areas of the Sanctuary, maintains the natural beauty of the undeveloped areas of the Sanctuary, and performs a variety of related tasks. Essential Duties and Responsibilities:

You are responsible and accountable for the culture you add to your team dynamic. Performs manual and power tool assisted weed removalfromlawns, garden & flower beds, rock beds,walkways,parking lots, animal areas,areas of heavy traffic and natural landscaped areas. Performs daily mowing and edging of lawns using gas or battery powered mowers and trimmers. Performs pruning of trees and various vegetation to industry standard using chainsaw, power tools & hand tools. Waters areas by hand using a hose and/or watering can as directed. Monitors all plants while working and report any changes or concerns. Performs snow removal of walkways and public buildings. Maintains a safe workplace, valuing and modeling safe work practices, adhering to organizational safety practices and rules, and communicating about unsafe practices and conditions. Other duties as assigned.
Skills and Experience:
Must be personally committed to the Mission and Core Values of the Best Friends Animal Society. Previous experience in landscaping or gardening is preferred.An interest in plants, especially native plants is a plus. Must be able to work alone and as a part of a team. Ability to follow written or oral direction effectively. Sensitivity to environmental issues. A positive approach to challenging situations. An ability to learn on the job and a desire to learn new skills. General basic computer skills are required, email, calendar & internet applications. Ability to professionally advocate Best Friends' positions on issues.
Physical Requirements:
Must be able to routinely lift and carry up to 80 pounds. Must be able to work outdoors for prolonged periods in all weather conditions with temperatures ranging from below freezing to above 100 degrees. Must be able to perform strenuous physical activity daily, including, but not limited to: climbing, lifting and carrying, reaching, stooping, squatting, cleaning and bending. Exposure to dogs, cats and other animals of all sizes, temperaments, and medical status. Must have a valid driver's license for at least 3 years, ability to qualify to be added to Best Friends insurance. Daily hours and days of the week may vary according to the needs of the department schedule; the position could include weekends and holiday work. Travel up to 5%.
