We are seeking a highly experienced Informatics Specialist/Bioinformatician to provide advanced expertise in applying technology to medical and public health informatics initiatives. The ideal candidate will possess a deep understanding of bioinformatics, statistics, biostatistics, and quantitative methods to support resource deployment for large-scale public health surveillance, prevention, and intervention programs. This position requires specialized expertise in integrating heterogeneous health information systems and databases, ensuring compliance with HIPAA and federal privacy requirements, and applying emerging informatics standards and technologies to support mission-critical health programs.

Primary Responsibilities:
- Apply advanced informatics methods, including data mining, statistics, expert systems, and decision science, to support public health research and operations.
- Design, develop, and optimize computational workflows for bioinformatics and clinical informatics projects, including genomic, clinical, and epidemiological datasets.
- Support integration and interoperability of diverse health information systems, ensuring secure and efficient data sharing and dissemination across agencies.
- Apply knowledge of HL7, X12, W3C, and other health data standards in the development and implementation of informatics solutions.
- Conduct quantitative analysis to guide large-scale public health surveillance, prevention, and intervention campaigns.
- Ensure compliance with HIPAA, federal privacy policies, and other applicable regulatory requirements in the handling and dissemination of health data.
- Provide expertise in scientific visualization tools and methods to communicate health and bioinformatics data effectively to stakeholders.
- Collaborate with federal health agencies and research partners to support national and international informatics initiatives.
- Stay current with emerging trends in medical informatics, public health informatics, and bioinformatics to recommend innovative approaches.
Minimum Requirements:
- Masters Degree in Informatics, Bioinformatics, Biostatistics, Mathematics, Computer Science, or a related field.
- A minimum of 15 years of experience in informatics, with expertise spanning public health, medical informatics, or bioinformatics.
- Demonstrated proficiency in applying statistical and computational methods to large, complex datasets.
- Strong knowledge of health data interoperability standards (e.g., HL7, FHIR, X12).
- Experience integrating heterogeneous data systems and ensuring secure, privacy-compliant data sharing.
- Familiarity with HIPAA regulations and federal requirements for data privacy and confidentiality.
- Ability to develop and apply scientific visualization technologies for health data interpretation and decision-making.
- Strong analytical, problem-solving, and communication skills with the ability to convey complex technical concepts to diverse stakeholders.
- Ability to obtain a Public Trust Clearance.
Preferred Qualifications:
- Experience working with federal agencies such as the Department of Veterans Affairs (VA), HHS, VHA or CDC.
- Professional certifications in informatics, health IT, or related domains.
- Experience with cloud-based bioinformatics platforms, high-performance computing, and advanced analytics.
- Experience with international or national standards development activities in health informatics.
