The Fleet Manager, in collaboration with Honor Foods leadership, is responsible for selecting and maintaining vehicles, trailers and related equipment to keep deliveries and distributions on schedule and within established budgets. Oversees the procurement, tracking and maintenance of vehicles, coordinates with Safety on transportation matters, and assists the General Counsel with claims management, DOT filings and other duties as assigned. Work alongside the senior management team in contributing to overall business objectives.

Key Responsibilities

Regulatory Compliance:



  • Assist with generating and providing Random DOT Testing Lists to designated DOT authorities as required.
  • Assist with maintaining accurate and confidential records of drug and alcohol testing in accordance with DOT regulations as required.
  • Assist the General Counsel in oversight of Hours of Service (HOS) for all regulated drivers to ensure compliance with FMCSA requirements.
  • Ensure timely filing of DOT required registration, licenses and other filings.
  • Support and/or lead policies, procedures and issues related to compliance with DOT regulations.


Fleet Management:



  • Direct various fleet management activities such as procurement, repairs (including accident repairs and damage claims), maintenance, servicing, according to priority to ensure all functions are carried out within established rules and legal regulations.
  • Coordinate lease agreements and/or purchases of tractors, straight trucks, other vehicles, trailers and related transportation equipment for optimal quality and price.
  • Work collaboratively with Burris Companies to ensure fleet-related expenditures remain within budget by controlling costs and authorizing spending, while also contributing to the development of new policies, programs, and procedures.
  • Oversee procurement of tractors and trailers for Burris companies, ensuring alignment with operational needs, budget and regulatory requirements.
  • Manage vendor relationships for vehicle leasing, maintenance, and repair services.
  • Provide detailed technical training related to maintenance to team members, answer queries and communicate information related to policies and procedures.


Reporting and Analytics:



  • Assist with tracking and reporting key compliance metrics to Legal and Executive Leadership.
  • Analyze trends in fleet performance and safety to recommend improvements.
  • Review and maintain daily vehicle inspection and maintenance reports, ensuring timely documentation and follow-up on any identified issues.
  • Maintain statistical reports, files, and relevant records related to maintenance, repairs, and depreciation, mileage, etc.


Fleet Oversight and Risk Management:



  • Monitor fleet operations to ensure compliance with safety, environmental, and operational standards
  • Collaborate with departments and Burris companies to identify vehicle-related needs and issues and ensure timely resolution of any conflicts or concerns.
  • Collaborate with Legal to assess and mitigate risk related to fleet incidents, audits and regulatory changes.
  • Lead internal audits and prepare documentation for external inspections or investigations.
  • Accident Reporting and Claims, Insurance Claims
  • Manage out-of-service vehicles with third party



Experience & Qualifications



  • High school diploma or GED
  • Bachelor's degree inlogisticsor accounting, preferred
  • 5+ years in logistics/transportation industry
  • Must be able to interact courteously and tactfully with managers, co-workers,customersand/or vendors to the point that productivity and morale are positively affected
  • Ability to train and motivate employees to work in a safe manner,leadby example
  • Ability to remain calm and focused while prioritizing requests from multiple sources
  • Ability tomaintainand ensure confidentiality of team member and company information
  • Accuracy and attention to detail
  • Proficient in computer usage to include email, word processing, spreadsheets
  • Knowledge of computer software and applications
  • Ability to accommodate flexible schedules to meet the needs of the customer to include overtime, nights,weekendsand holidays asrequired
  • Ability to Travel
