What will I do as an Analyst III, Innovation Portfolio at The GIANT Company?

This role is responsible for supporting Development Engineering tasks for the Innovation and Implementation team. Project work will support the save for our customer workstream and feed a 3-5-year on-going pipeline of creative innovation projects which will deliver incremental benefit to our organization. The Analyst will develop solutions, maintain how to documents & SOPs, complete ROI analysis, Use process flow and value stream mapping, OR tactics, and lean principles to institute projects in Testing environments. Conducts studies in operations to maximize work flow and spatial utilization. Interacts with key business stakeholders on projects. Helps to identify business needs through interviews with stakeholders. Responsible to work closely with the Manager, Innovation & Implementation providing support on and leading complex problems in our store environments. Responsible to define approach to formally roll-out solutions in test and pilot environments, assist in troubleshooting after implementation and to complete and package design for mass implementation. Act as subject matter expert for cross functional improvements and serve as key resource to define and facilitate sustainable process change across store environment not only in Operations but with Merchandising, Format, Marketing, NFR, and our partners in Ahold Delhaize USA. Responsible to support the training of deployment and change management best practices across store operations for the Brand. Provides support to the Save for our customer targets yearly for savings.

Essential Functions:

  • Evaluate new business proposals and proposed store process changes to understand impact to store labor hours.
  • Participate in ADUSA implementation strategies including communication and end-to-end project plans for key operational initiatives across all Brands.
  • Assist in developing and reporting on Save For Our Customer report outs to Finance and leadership
  • Provide insight in facility layout and store workflow design. Provide appropriate analysis to support recommendations on changes and facility improvement.
  • Lead and apply key change management principles early on in project/strategy definition including assessments of sponsorship, key stakeholders, business owners, and Brand end users to ensure successful design phase.
  • Based on change management and assessment output, assist labor and project teams to determine timing for test, pilot, rollout and provide analysis and scope of training and communication investment inclusive of readiness state.
  • Support and drive development of supporting process and standards documentation to support project /solution delivery.
  • Perform research in support of key operations management decisions related to store process and service level management. Expert in queue management and analysis of labor standards.
  • Act as the R&D engineering liaison to key business stakeholders
  • Interact with Directors, VPs, and SVPs to provide expert opinion on research, design, business case and ROI modelling decisions and impact studies (for example: case ready meat, project fix).
  • Assist in end-to-end process review /scope to ensure supporting training plan is complete.
  • Proven ability to develop KPIs, dashboards and benchmark reports to measure success.
  • Define and measure success metrics and monitor rollout progress until the program is completely embedded in business practices.
  • Partner with respective support area owners to ensure store impact is fully identified and planned (i.e. who will be impacted, how much time, store labor impact, etc...).
  • Evaluate ROI for proposed projects
  • Responsible for assistance in delivering the Yearly Save for our Customer target for Labor and Opex
  • Source vendors to partner with on manufacturing and prototyping
  • Partner with IT business consultants and BRMs to ensure funding and proper roadmap placement identified for viable POCs
  • Identify upcoming trends within the retail grocery sector and beyond that would impact shopping experience and execution in store
  • Actively researches and attends industry-relevant trade shows, networking events, and learning summits in pursuit of viable initiatives to drive robust pipeline development.
  • Issue Purchase Orders for prototype and pilot equipment as it relates to new solution development. Track R&D budget.
  • Work hand in hand with the store teams when an initiative is installed in Pilot and Deployment.
  • Business case creation
  • Conduct financial modeling and setup as it relates to the capital funding approval process ("bluesheet"), including detailed financial estimates
  • Responsible for end-to-end vendor onboarding as it relates to engaging with new vendor partners.
  • Responsible for requesting, issuing, and executing, and maintaining various pilot agreements, non-disclosure agreements, and contracts using Contract Lifecycle Management system.
  • Adapt technology to automate in store processes and tasks
  • Assist in leadership requests as it relates to analyzing existing shopping amenities or solutions that require ongoing reviews and CVP business recommendations.
  • Complete complex analytics and modelling of potential impact solutions may have
  • Data Mining and working with large data sets to support decisions and inform areas of opportunities
  • Need to be able to manipulate large data sets in timely fashion to feed into analysis and presentations for new projects.
  • In partnership with Business Insights team, creates and industrializes reporting mechanisms (EPM, PowerBI, or other) for long-term business owners that identifies and measures applicable KPIs to drive best-in-class Operational Execution and Compliance for new programs.
  • Completes industry and consumer surveys to understand trends and how the projects should be designed to fit with the ideal shopping experience
  • Works closely with vendor partners to ID beneficial technology for the business we could repurpose or modify
  • Ability to quickly learn new and proprietary software programs as it relates to project requirements
  • Ability to understand and apply highly complex logic as it relates to IT solution development
  • Familiarity with AGILE work methodologies in a way that can effectively interact and influence IT Partners within the greater ADUSA Organization.
  • Conduct comprehensive post-mortem reviews of projects and initiatives as it relates to all project stages (R&D, POC, Pilot, Deployment). Identify and react to systemic inefficiencies to improve overall internal processes.

What do we expect you to bring to the table?

  • B.S. degree in Industrial, Systems, or Mechanical Engineering, Operations Research or similar field
  • 3-5 years of experience in Engineering, Design, or creative process review roles
  • Previous experience in Retail grocery is beneficial.
  • Advanced in Microsoft Office suite, specifically Excel
  • Advanced in PowerBI, including ability to build and manage dashboards
  • Familiarity with Python and other coding/programming software programs (preferred)
  • Basic understanding of material manufacturing and fabrication processes (ex. Injection molding, alloys, 3D printing) as it relates to prototyping and equipment engineering.
  • Knowledge of Kaizen principles, including the ability to apply concepts in retail environment
  • Certification in ADKAR methodologies, including the ability to apply concepts throughout all stages of a project's lifecycle.
