The Office of Global Engagement ( OGE) at the University of Georgia is dedicated to expanding the global reach of our institution's instructional, research, and service missions, facilitating the university's thoughtful and effective participation and leadership in the interconnected world of the twenty-first century. OGE is comprised of three units: Immigration Services, International Initiatives, and Global Education-the latter including UGA's residential centers in Oxford, England and Cortona, Italy-with all areas supported by dedicated Finance and Operations staff. OGE's comprehensive structure enables it to advance strategic institutional goals aimed at raising the global profile of the University of Georgia. Position Summary
The International Centers Advisor advises and supports students throughout their study abroad process with a focus on the Cortona, Italy International Center. The position serves as the first point of contact for UGA Cortona programs, advises students, collects student applications and materials, and ensures student course selection and registration are completed with accuracy and within deadlines. The position maintains student records, organizes orientations and other events, as well as promotes education abroad experiences. The position assists in developing and implementing promotional materials on the web and in print and executing a recruitment schedule while representing the International Centers at events. The position will provide general support for both International Center efforts ( UGA Cortona and UGA at Oxford) as a unit within the Office of Global Engagement. This position will assist and support the Directors of the International Centers unit as well as more specific assistance to the International Centers Assistant Director and International Centers Coordinator. The position follows OGE Global Education policies and procedures and compiles Emergency Response Kit information by following Global Education's Risk Management protocol.
Knowledge, Skills, Abilities and/or Competencies

  • Experience in the field of international education or study abroad.
  • Prior study abroad experience.
  • Attention to detail, organizational and multi-tasking skills.
  • Ability to work quickly, accurately, and efficiently in a fast-paced environment.
  • Strong interpersonal, written, and oral communication skills.
  • Experience with Microsoft Word, Excel and PowerPoint.
  • Experience with website editing and managing social media accounts

Physical Demands

  • Comfortable with public speaking, with the possibility of speaking at recruitment and orientation sessions.
  • Lift and carry fair and orientation materials up to approximately 35 lbs.
  • Local and regional travel is needed to attend campus recruiting sessions and study abroad fairs.

Student and Program Administration Services -

  • Position will assist in providing information to UGA and affiliate institution students on applications to UGA Cortona programs, assist all students, guiding them through the appropriate applications actions, such as completing or withdrawing applications in the Study Away Portal
  • Communicating schedules and CRN and SABD numbers to students individually and assigning courses based on course selection forms
  • Ensuring students are registered properly
  • Reviewing students' accounts prior to departure to ensure program charges have been paid
  • Liaising with the UGA Office of Student Conduct and the corresponding offices of other institutions, and reporting information to the center directors
  • Guiding transient students throughout the application process to UGA Undergraduate Admissions and the Study Away Portal, including guidance on clearing holds in Athena.
  • The position will organize pre-travel, post-return, and other student orientations; liaise with UGA Disability Resource Center accommodating student needs while abroad.
  • Position will also liaise with OGE Finance, UGA OFSA, UGA Bursar's Office, UGA Admissions, and other administrative offices, as needed.
  • Risk management efforts, compiling Emergency Response Kits for on-site faculty and staff for each program.
  • Promoting employment opportunities for program alumni; and, as appropriate and assigned, attending meetings, serving on committees, and possibly representing UGA at international, national and regional meetings and professional conferences.
  • Other duties as assigned.

Recruitment -

  • Position will support UGA International Centers by promoting program and scholarship opportunities on UGA campus and through affiliate schools, through possible partnerships, and via alumni relations; assist in providing information to department and college advisors about Center programs and courses
  • Assist in developing program brochures and materials
  • Organizing and delivering recruitment events, such as classroom presentations, information tables and sessions
  • Coordinating with alumni of center programs to promote centers at events on campus
  • Possibly traveling to domestic study abroad fairs and participating in other publicity for the Centers
  • Maintaining and updating communication tolls, such as website information
  • Assisting in the organization of alumni functions and other events, such as UGA Cortona annual art show and support social media efforts. Other duties as assigned.

Advising -

  • Position will support UGA International Centers by advising UGA, non-UGA, and affiliate school students about study abroad options at UGA International Centers
  • Meeting with students to inform them about programs through scheduled advising appointments and walk-in hours
  • Providing basic advice to non-U.S. students with visa requirements for travel to international center countries. Other duties as assigned.
