Primary Purpose of Organizational Unit
The goal of the UNC Center for Health Promotion and Disease Prevention ( HPDP) is to prevent chronic disease and reduce health disparities. Investigators and staff at HPDP work with communities to conduct research, provide training and translate research findings into policy and practice. Research areas include nutrition and physical activity, cardiovascular health, diabetes, obesity, healthy food access, cancer prevention and control, children's health, rural health, and health equity. HPDP is part of a network of 20 CDC Prevention Research Centers across the United States.
Position Summary
This position may be eligible for a hybrid work arrangement that may include a partially remote work location, consistent with System Office policy. UNC Chapel Hill employees are generally required to reside within a reasonable commuting distance of their assigned duty station.

The Behavioral Interventionist position (Permanent Time Limited- 2 years) will work with the Community Health and Wellness Research ( CHWR) team on the HomeGrown project ( NIH R61 funded study). This project will evaluate an adapted healthy lifestyle program specifically tailored for families of young children with Down syndrome with the goal of improving children's diet quality and physical activity. This R61 grant will evaluate the feasibility of this program. The Behavioral Interventionist will contribute to intervention content, intervention adaptations and will be train on and lead the Homegrown program with primary caregivers of young children (ages 2-6 years old) with Down syndrome. Additionally, they will assist, when able, with remote recruitment and online data collection of primary caregivers. This project will be hybrid, with working some hours at the office and some remotely.

The Behavioral Interventionist will assist in creating intervention protocols and process evaluations procedures. They will assist with intervention program adaptation, be trained in and lead the HomeGrown intervention (nutrition and physical activity focus) with primary caregivers of young children (2-6 years old) with Down syndrome. This intervention will include a remotely delivered orientation and bi-monthly check-ins with caregivers. They will use active and reflective listening, collaborative problem-solving, and facilitation skills. The Behavioral Interventionist will also be in charge of creating and maintaining an intervention tracking database. They will monitor the study email, the admin portal from the HomeGrown website and respond and document progress accordingly. The Behavioral Interventionist will be trained on study protocols for and assist with remote recruitment and online data collection of primary caregivers. The Behavioral Interventionist will contribute to the preparation of NIH, Clinical Trials, and Data Safety Monitoring reports and IRB modifications and renewals.

Occasional weekend or evening hours will be required to accommodate caregivers schedules.
Minimum Education and Experience Requirements
Bachelor's degree in a discipline related to the field assigned and one year of related training or experience; or equivalent combination of training and experience. All degrees must be received from appropriately accredited institutions.

Preferred Qualifications, Competencies, and Experience
- Experience in public health, nutrition, exercise science, psychology, counseling, human services, social work, or related field.
- Experience communicating with clients or participants remotely (e.g., webinars, telehealth).
- Experience in and knowledge of children or families of children with Down syndrome.
- Knowledge around nutrition and/or physical activity evidence based practices.
- Experience with counseling, coaching, health education or motivational interviewing.
- Experience working with diverse populations with varied education levels and digital literacy.
