Position Summary |
A research technician position is available in the laboratory of Dr. Tigist Tamir in the Department of Biochemistry and Biophysics at
UNC Chapel Hill. The Tamir lab (i.e. the Systems Metabolism and Signaling lab) is dedicated to unraveling the biochemical intricacies of oxidative stress response (
OSR) and its impact on cellular homeostasis. Oxidative stress, a byproduct of energy production essential for all living organisms, arises from an imbalance of reactive oxygen, nitrogen, and carbonyl species (
ROS/
RNS/
RCS). These highly reactive molecules present a significant waste management challenge within cells. Through evolution,
OSR pathways have emerged as critical guardians of cellular homeostasis, adept at neutralizing potentially harmful reactive molecules. Our lab, a member of the Lineberger Comprehensive Cancer Center, Department of Nutrition, and Computational Medicine Program, studies dysregulation of
OSR in the context of cancer and obesity. Specifically, we investigate how cellular signaling networks regulate
OSR and metabolism, integrating tools like phosphoproteomics, metabolomics, mass spectrometry, structural analysis, and computational modeling to define and understand therapeutically relevant signals driving dysregulated
OSR in diseases. |
