Registered Nurse Team Lead - Nights

We are currently seeking a dynamic and dedicated Team Leader to join our Acute Care team. This leadership role is vital in ensuring the delivery of safe, high-quality, and patient-centered care within our organization.

Job Summary:

The Medical-Surgical Team Leader is an experienced, professional RN who provides leadership and manages patient flow on the medical-surgical unit. During hours when organizational service managers are not available in house, the Team Leader serves as the resource person.

Essential Duties & Responsibilities:

RN:

  1. Applies the nursing process to assess pertinent data utilizing patient, family/designated caregivers and interdisciplinary input. Develops, implements and evaluates patient progress toward designated outcomes relative to the plan of care

  2. Completes timely and comprehensive patient documentation, in accordance with service area standards.

  3. Demonstrates a commitment to professional development through completion of mandatory education.

  4. Demonstrates punctuality and consistent attendance record.

Team Lead:

  1. Accountable for the assignment of patient care on the medical-surgical unit to ensure ability to provide safe patient care while meeting fiscal guidelines. Adjusts staffing throughout the shift and prioritizes patient care activities. Documents staffing variances on the daily assignment sheet.

  2. Accountable assignment and oversight of admission and discharges processes and daily assignment for Nursing Assistants; monitoring for accountability. Serves as a resource to other RN staff members.

  3. Actively participates in inter-disciplinary team conferences for patients on the medical-surgical unit. Acts as a liaison to coordinate activities and needs between patients, physicians and other service areas.

  4. Works collaboratively with Utilization Review and leadership on clinical documentation requirements to support quality measures. Assists with chart reviews and clarification of documentation to support patient care and clinical charges.

  5. Accountable for initial management of any incidents or customer concerns that arise during the daily provision of care on the medical-surgical unit. Able to identify incidents that should be documented, and to direct staff on when and how events should be entered in the reporting system for further review.

  6. Communicates with physicians and supports medical-surgical nursing staff in development of professional nurse-physician communication skills.

  7. Acts as a mentor to support the development of critical thinking in clinical scenarios.

  8. Supports nursing department through participation in service area/organizational meetings and clinical committees.

  9. Works collaboratively with Nurse Managers to identify areas of opportunity and to provide staff with mandatory education and competency training.

  10. Intervenes and directs activities in crisis situations for the organization until the on call
    Executive Team member responds. Accountable for knowing disaster plan.

  11. Maintains expertise in Quality Improvement and Safety initiatives. Role models, instructs and encourages others to use improvement process steps. Monitors staff compliance.

  12. Observes staff as they fulfill their role; gives direct, honest, open and appropriate feedback at the time and in support of evaluations.

  13. Demonstrates professionalism with a consistently supportive, positive demeanor in workplace interactions. Assists in holding others accountable.

  14. Performs all other related duties as assigned.

Experience and Skills:

  1. Minimum of one (1) year clinical experience.

  2. Demonstrated leadership skills.
