Compensation: $32.50 - $48.75 per hour (For this position, the targeted salary range is between $32.50 - $38.50 per hour.)

Work Schedule: Full-time, flexible start and end times depending on scheduling needs.

As a Technical Trades Instructor, you'll... The Technical Trades Instructor supports Tessera's Technical Trades skills-based education program within the organization and in the community. With direction and guidance from the Technical Trades Workforce Development Manager, the Technical Trades Instructor will develop and maintain Technical Trades specific training curriculum that align with Tessera's mission of "Creating Opportunities for People with Disabilities".

The Technical Trades Instructor will teach both youth, ages 16-18, and adults, the necessary basic skills for facilities maintenance work, in the fields of HVAC, Electric, Plumbing, Construction, and other general maintenance skills. This individual will guide students in developing practical skills through hands-on projects, teaching them about tools, safety, and workplace soft skills concepts such as professionalism, work ethic, communication techniques and use of technology in the workplace.

  • Work with individuals with disabilities to discover their interests for employment and prepare them for employment

  • Develop curriculum with a strong focus on safety in the workplace.

  • Develop trades curriculum that is supportive to individuals with learning disabilities in the fields of HVAC, Electric, Plumbing, Construction, and general maintenance.

  • Guide and instruct students in developing workplace soft skills such as professionalism, work ethic, communication, and the use of technology in the workplace.

  • Instruct students on trades curriculum in the fields of HVAC, Electric, Plumbing, Construction, and general maintenance.

  • Provide one-on-one instruction and support to students as needed.

  • Ensure accessibility for all learning styles and disabilities at all points of the training process.

  • Evaluate student progress and provide feedback to support their development.

  • Maintain a safe and organized learning environment.

  • Competency with technology used to provide services remotely and ability to instruct clients on how to use technology to engage in services

  • Maintain confidentiality of information in accordance with HIPAA guidelines and program rules.

  • Establish and maintain effective, positive relationships with students, employers, internal departments, referral sources, external agencies, and the public.

  • Perform duties in compliance with Federal, State, and local laws, rules, regulations and guidelines governing equal employment opportunity and nondiscrimination in the workplace

  • Operate Tessera provided vehicles or personal vehicle for job duties

  • Maintain professionalism when conducting business on behalf of Tessera

  • Attend continuing education trainings to stay current with trends in disability topics and facilities maintenance.

  • On occasion, attend industry conferences, seminars and professional meetings to stay current, build networks and promote Tessera interests.

  • Stand-in for management on occasion in meetings, communications, and decision-making processes, ensuring continuity and alignment with Tessera Technical Trades objectives

  • Maintain tools, equipment, and training materials in good working order

  • All Other Duties as Assigned*

Physical Requirements:

Employees must have the ability to perform the following physical demands for extended periods of time with or without assistance. The physical demands of this position may be reasonably accommodated for individuals with disabilities to perform the essential functions on a case-by-case basis.

  • Must be able to lift and/or move up to 50 pounds.

  • May be required to reach, kneel, walk, stand, and use repetitive motion for several hours at a time based on position duties.

  • Work may require repetitive motion, reaching, lifting, kneeling, and walking. Standing or sitting for several hours at a time, climbing in and out of a vehicle, and up and down stairs may also be required.

  • Must have the perseverance to work effectively under pressure for extended periods of time.

Certifications (or ability to obtain):

  • OSHA 10 (within 90 days), OSHA 30 (within 1 year)

  • CPR/First Aid (within 90 days)

Summary of desired skills and experience for the Tessera Technical Trades Instructor:

  • High School Diploma/GED is required.

  • 7+ years hands-on experience in HVAC, Electrical, Plumbing, Construction, or Facilities Maintenance is required.

  • 1+ year of mentoring, training, or instructional experience (formal or informal) is required.

  • Combination of previous experience and education will be considered.

  • Strong communication skills - verbal, written, and interpersonal is preferred.

  • Travel to various Tessera worksites and locations in the community as needed.

  • Must be able to work in an environment with variable noise levels and frequent interruptions.

  • Due to the need to travel to Tessera sites and locations in the community, a valid state driver's license is required with the ability to obtain and maintain coverage by Tessera's insurance.
