Primary Purpose of the Organization: |
The primary purpose of
Police and Public Safety is to protect the life and property of the students, faculty, and staff on the campus of Fayetteville State University and to support the University's core mission of academic excellence by providing comprehensive and professional public safety services, as well as convenient access to a peaceful and orderly campus community. |
Primary Purpose of the Position: |
This is professional work involving enforcing the law of the State of North Carolina and the United States Government at Fayetteville State University. Employees have full law enforcement authority, ranging from traffic control to criminal investigations, within a limited geographic jurisdiction. Work involves patrolling an assigned area, responding to and investigating complaints or calls, and detecting violations of State Laws and applicable regulations. Conduct self-initiated security checks to protect people and property to include zone checks and buildings. |
Minimum Education And Experience Requirements: |
- A minimum of an associate degree (or 60 hours of college credit) and 4 years of sworn law enforcement officer experience.
- Certification from NC Criminal Justice Training and Standards Commission as a commissioned police officer or certification eligible for out-of-state lateral hires.

Knowledge, Skills And Abilities: |
- Knowledge of Departmental Policies and Federal, State, and Local Legislation laws.
- Ability to apply court rulings and case law to agency records retention and public records. Knowledge of Clery and Title IX requirements and ability to apply requirements to campus environment.
- Knowledge of Crime Analysis procedures.
- Knowledge of NC General Statutes. Knowledge ofthe Police Department Departmental Operating Instructions.
- Knowledge of the Commission on the Accreditation of Law Enforcement Agencies (CALEA).
- Ability to deploy resources and make quick and responsible decisions in emergency situations.
- Skill to effectively communicate information to officers and investigators.
- Knowledge of effective crime prevention techniques and strategies.

Preferred Qualifications: |
At the agency head's discretion, up to two additional years of sworn law enforcement experience may be preferred. |
