Description

Monitor upgrade and maintain all College server computers and networking equipment. Assist with design implementation maintenance monitoring troubleshooting problem solving recovery and repair of the college IT infrastructure systems. Work with the existing College infrastructure to maintain maximum runtime for all equipment.


Description of Essential Functions (critical tasks)

Essential Job Functions:

  1. Assist the Infrastructure Admin to maintain all physical servers virtual machines networking equipment and storage appliances proactively. Monitor datacenter health and respond to hardware issues as they arise.
  2. Research and configure and implement security concepts and maintain a secure college network. Ensure security through access controls backups and firewalls.
  3. Install and upgrade all of the College's Virtual infrastructure. Build test and maintain new servers as needed.
  4. Assist in performing network management tasks including VLAN creation new switch implementation firewall modification port assignment and wireless access point deployment.
  5. Assist in performing server administration tasks including user/group administration security permissions group policies DNS and DHCP management print services research log warnings and errors virtual machine creation and resource monitoring.
  6. Maintain printers and computer equipment on the network.
  7. Analyze current issues to find alternatives to improve performance and function utilizing current and new technologies.
  8. Maintain and oversee everyday application servers email servers file servers and Active Directory functions.
  9. Research and use scripting (especially Powershell) to improve and manage automation techniques and methods.
  10. Assist with analysis testing diagnosing determing compatibility of recommending and configuring new network software and equipment.
  11. Assist with researching recommending configuring and implementing changes to the college wireless network in a secure environment.
  12. Perform regular backup operations and implement appropriate processes for data protection disaster recovery and failover procedures.
  13. Other duties as assigned.

Specific Functional Job Requirements

Education Requirements:

  • Associate Degree in related field and relevant work experience required.

Experience Requirements:
    Personal computers, client operating systems, and common application software, server operating systems, networking protocols. 3 years of experience preferred.

Knowledge:
    Current versions of client operating systems, application software, virtual machines, printers, network, and server functions. Continuous Quality Improvement techniques. Project Management techniques.

Skills:
    Ability to work with a variety of software packages and with different hardware configurations. Ability to perform research on, and implement new and emerging technologies.

Personal Requirements:
    Ability to work with others, excellent communication skills and problem solving ability with a professional attitude. The ability to work in a team environment with individual accountability. Detail oriented, self-starter who enjoys relating to a diverse population of students, staff and public in a fast paced work environment with multiple interruptions. Ability to meet and exceed customer needs while involving the customer. Ability to listen and respond with empathy.
