Job Summary

Manages the Core facility within the Department of Biomedical Engineering at Florida International University. The cores will include the cell culture core and imaging core facilities. Assists in the inventory and management of animal facilities associated with the Department. These cores are available to all faculty and students within the Department, and organizes the scheduling of usage of the facility. Performs necessary training of new researchers in the facility, and ensures proper usage of facility equipment.

  • Supervises operation of the laboratory, including overseeing the use of laboratory funds, supply inventory and purchasing, and research activities within the core.
  • Assists with experimental design, research implementation, and training of users for projects that utilize core facility resources.
  • Provides expertise and instruction in basic mammalian and bacterial cell culture procedures and molecular biology assay techniques.
  • Maintains cell culture equipment and performs routine tests for contamination.
  • Cleans and performs regular maintenance of core facility equipment.
  • Performs other related duties as assigned or as directed. The omission of specific duties does not preclude the supervisor from assigning duties that are logically related to the position.
  • Serves as the University's credit card user for departmental transactions. Adheres to University's rules and regulations.
  • Performs essential duties in any emergencies such as hurricanes, storms, and/or any other university emergency closing. The employee is expected to be available to report to work as needed during university emergency closing with appropriate notification of a department administrator.


Minimum Qualifications
  • Bachelor's degree.


Desired Qualifications
  • Education in Biomedical Engineering, Cell and Molecular Biology, or related field preferred.
  • Experience working in a research lab.
  • Knowledge in conducting routine cell culture techniques.
