Rutgers University-Newark (RU-N), an urban public research university and anchor institution, located in Newark, New Jersey, a city of promise is seeking a Research Project Assistant. Reporting to the Principal Investigator of the Child Study Center (
CSC), this position coordinates various cognitive neuroscience studies for the laboratory.
This position is responsible for and not limited to the following.
- Keeps records of work performed and maintains databases and other records
- Collects, sorts, and compiles samples and data, performs preliminary analysis, and analyzes data Maintains laboratory in an organized, clean, and safe manner in accordance with established procedures and regulations
- Orders experimental supplies
- Trains and leads students through various laboratory-related activities
- Coordinates and schedules student work shifts. Provides research and technical support as needed.
- Follows and enforces policies and procedures established by the Lab, the Department of Psychology, the School of Arts and Sciences-Newark (SASN) and Rutgers University-Newark
- Performs professional work that requires knowledge of general laboratory experiments and practices, as well as specific knowledge of the University policies and procedures
- Must be able to multitask in a fast-paced, stakeholder-focused environment with an understanding of the mission, vision, role, and goals of the Lab, the Department, SASN, and RU-N, and the role the tasks and responsibilities of this position play in the achievement of these goals
The position is grant funded and dependent on adequate external funding. |

Qualifications
Minimum Education and Experience |
- Requires a bachelor's degree in a related scientific field or an equivalent combination of education and/or relevant research experience

Certifications/Licenses |

Required Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities |
- Must have a basic knowledge of the research discipline
- Skills are normally acquired through an accumulation of work experiences and/or specific work related training programs
- Requires the ability to record and maintain data in computerized and non-computerized formats Must be able to communicate effectively
- Must attend and complete any relevant laboratory safety and other training
- Computer literacy required

Preferred Qualifications |
- Experience in psychological research with human participants
- Experience with Windows and Mac computing and Microsoft Office suite

Equipment Utilized |
- PC and Mac computers, Microsoft Office, and SPSS. Must be familiar with or learn all equipment, software, and specialized programs and/or materials needed to support the effective and efficient performance of this position

- Laboratory environment
- Requires interaction with children of all ages, parents, undergraduate students, and community members
- All work must be in compliance with all University and external processes, policies, and regulations for safety and human subject research and participant recruitment. Must complete all relevant training
