POSITION SPECIFICS

The Keystone Animal Diagnostic Center (KADC), a new laboratory being established at Penn State as part of the Pennsylvania Animal Diagnostic Laboratory System (PADLS) is looking for Diagnostic Laboratory Technologists.The KADC will be located on the Penn State Beaver Campus in Monaca, PA, approximately 30 minutes northwest of Pittsburgh.

As one of the technologists at the KADC, you will work as part of a team providing a wide range of diagnostic and support services for the laboratory.

Responsibilities: In this role, you will:

  • Receive and process livestock and poultry specimens and samples submitted by veterinarians, farmers, and other clients.
  • Perform benchtop testing such as serology, molecular diagnostics, parasitology, and others, adhering to strict standard operating procedures.
  • Identify, and work with the section head to address, any non-conforming test results.
  • Enter test results in the Laboratory Information Management System for reporting purposes, ensuring accuracy and timeliness.
  • Ensure that the laboratory equipment is appropriately maintained and functioning correctly.
  • Follow quality assurance protocols and participate in trainings, proficiency testing, and certifications, to ensure the integrity of the diagnostic results.
  • Maintain an adequate inventory of testing supplies to address normal and surge capacity needs.

These full-time positions will be 100% on-site at the Beaver Campus facility. The KADC will operate during normal business hours, although testing of samples may occasionally be required on weekends or holidays in the case of a suspected outbreak of a high-consequence disease.

Preferred Experience and Education: Applicants who have relevant experience in a clinical/diagnostic laboratory, or a research laboratory setting are strongly preferred. A Bachelor and/or a graduate degree in the life sciences, biology, or a related field is also preferred.

MINIMUM EDUCATION, WORK EXPERIENCE & REQUIRED CERTIFICATIONS

If filled as Medical Technologist - Professional, this position requires: Associate Degree No prior relevant work experience required; or an equivalent combination of education and experience accepted Required Certifications: None If filled as Medical Technologist - Intermediate Professional, this position requires: Associate Degree 2+ years of relevant experience; or an equivalent combination of education and experience accepted Required Certifications: None

Additional Information: Rabies vaccination and biennial titer checks are strongly recommended and will be covered by the laboratory.

SALARY & BENEFITS

The salary range for this position, including all possible grades, is $51,000.00 - $81,500.00.
