Overview

The Business Development Officer is responsible for identifying new market opportunities, creating new customer relationships, maintaining relationships with internal business partners by referring business and contributing to revenue growth. The Business Development Officer is responsible creating and maintaining Centers of Influence and referral sources. The Business Development Officer is expected to refer new opportunities to internal business partners across all lines of business. The Business Development Officer is responsible for being motivated to develop and implement growth strategies for the achievement of revenue goals.

Responsibilities

    Actively participate in new business development by identifying, developing and documenting calls on prospective customers and referral sources for all bank products and services
  • Obtain appointments with decision makers of prospective businesses
  • Work with other areas of the bank to develop cross-sale prospects, which includes but is not limited to Retail, Mortgage, Wealth Management, and Commercial Lending
  • Cross sell all company products and services and to develop referral opportunities and make referrals where appropriate
  • Participate in joint calls with Commercial Relationship Officers, Market Presidents or other team members
  • Assist in the management of active portfolio of small, medium to large loan/deposit relationships
  • Interview applicants, structure and negotiate loan terms, and analyze new & renewed loans
  • Support junior lenders with larger more complicated underwriting with renewals and new loans
  • Assist in successfully maintaining lending and deposit growth by assisting staff with underwriting, future client development, and maintaining existing client relationships
  • Assign appropriate risk grades to loans and relationships
  • Develop and recommend pricing strategies and parameters
  • Obtain and retain product knowledge
  • Support the collection of past due loans
  • Direct financial statements to commercial credit analysts for spreading and analysis
  • Respond to referrals from Senior Management of the bank & the company & others
  • Maintain and enhance the relationships with the bank's customers and referral sources
  • Monitor new developments in lending, compliance with loan policies and compliance with appropriate regulations and suggest changes in credit policy
  • Provide training and guidance for lending personnel
  • Provide back up support for managing the internal audit, external audit & examination process with respect to lending
  • Will be involved in community activities
  • Perform other related duties as assigned


Qualifications

  • A high school diploma or equivalent required, Bachelor's degree preferred
  • One year previous lending experience or three years job related experience
  • Ability to analyze a credit application for completeness and for documents needed on all types of loans, preferred
  • Knowledge of Federal laws and regulations involving loans, preferred
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills
  • Ability to read, analyze, and interpret general business periodicals, professional journals, technical procedures, and procedure manuals
  • Ability to effectively present information and respond to questions from groups of managers, clients, customers, and the general public
  • Ability to apply concepts such as fractions, percentages, ratios, and proportions to practical situations
  • Ability to interpret a variety of instructions furnished in written, oral, diagram, or schedule form
  • Effective sales, negotiating and customer service abilities
