Essential Job Duties |
Join a dedicated team at NC State's Equine and Farm Animal Veterinary Center (
EFAVC), where your leadership helps with our commitment to exceptional patient care and facility excellence. In this important role, you'll oversee Animal Attendant staff responsible for daily husbandry, patient handling, and facility upkeep. You'll coordinate closely with hospital personnel to maintain a clean, safe, and efficient environment that supports both patient well-being and clinical operations.
As Animal Attendant Supervisor, you'll guide a team that plays a key role in infection control, environmental safety, and animal welfare. You'll manage staff development and performance, plan day-to-day operations, and ensure compliance with infection control,
ADA, and regulatory standards that protect our people, patients, and spaces. The role involves active, hands-on work and the physical ability to safely lift up to 70 pounds while supporting patient and facility needs.
Key Responsibilities
- Supervise Animal Attendant staff, including scheduling, training, and performance management.
- Oversee all aspects of patient husbandry and facility maintenance, including cleaning, disinfection, and waste management.
- Collaborate with hospital teams to meet facility and patient care needs and ensure seamless operations.
- Manage inventory of feed, bedding, and husbandry supplies, ensuring adequate stock and proper storage.
- Lead facility improvement projects, equipment repairs, and renovations up to $50,000 per project.
- Promote adherence to infection control, safety, and accessibility standards in alignment with regulatory guidelines.
- Foster a positive, service-oriented culture that supports teamwork and high-quality patient care.

Other Responsibilities |
Participate in projects as needed (hospital software integrations and operational changes). Serve as content expert for areas of assignment. |
Qualifications
Minimum Experience/Education |
Bachelor's degree and two years of general research experience; or an equivalent combination of training and experience.
All degrees must be received from appropriately accredited institutions.

Preferred Qualifications |
- Hands-on experience managing facilities or operations in an animal care environment.
- Knowledge of equine and farm animal husbandry and humane handling techniques.
- Familiarity with or ability to learn within 90 days OSHA, AAHA, AVMA, and NCVMB standards.
- Demonstrates professionalism, discretion, and strong interpersonal skills, with the ability to communicate effectively, solve problems, stay organized, and manage conflict constructively.
- Computer proficiency, including Microsoft Office and inventory management systems.
