Description

Working with the President and College leadership, this position leads the College's district-wide, comprehensive strategic planning process and oversees the alignment of strategic projects with institutional goals, translating strategic goals into actionable projects for organizational growth and achieving success. This position will direct project leads and key staff in the achievement of strategic priorities in areas such as enrollment lifecycles, academic lifecycles and business processes. The director provides expertise and guidance in strategic planning, strategy development, project management, and facilitating change. This position, in consultation with the President's Cabinet, will lead, direct, and coordinate project teams in support of the Board of Trustees' and President's strategic initiatives.

Description of Essential Functions (critical tasks)

  1. Directthe College's district-wide, comprehensive strategic planning process and related strategic objectives, initiatives and projects as directed by the President and Chief of Staff.
  2. Working with the appropriate Cabinet sponsor and project team leads, develop comprehensive strategic initiative project plans that encompass scope, objectives, deliverables, timelines, resource allocation, budget management, risk management strategies, translate vision into project plans, and ensure requirements are met.
  3. Lead cross-functional strategic initiative project teams. Working with the Cabinet sponsor, build and develop project teams, fostering collaboration, and guiding team members to ensure efficient execution and successful delivery.
  4. Provide leadership and direction for daily project activities, work plans, and administrative tasks. Build and maintain relationships with stakeholders.
  5. Track project timelines, milestones, and deliverables, implementing corrective actions as needed. Regularly review project plans and other information to gauge project status and track time reporting to ensure work aligns with the plan.
  6. Provide the President and the President's Cabinet with regular updates on the strategic plan and strategic initiative project status. Keep the President's Cabinet and various strategy project teams and stakeholders fully advised on strategic initiative progress through regular communications, reports and meetings.
  7. Evaluate strategic initiative projects to identify shortcomings, plan for future improvements in the College's rolling Strategic Plan, and recognize successes.
  8. Continuously assess and improve the strategic planning process, the associated strategic initiatives, and the project management processes and utilized methodologies.
  9. In collaboration with the Institutional Effectiveness Team, identify and provide data and pertinent research needed to support institutional strategic initiatives and continuous improvement processes for the College's rolling Strategic Plan.
  10. Manage specific strategic initiative project budgets, tracking expenses, and ensuring appropriate fiscal control and accountability. Coordinate with the President's Cabinet and Comptroller for the approval of any budgetary actions and committing department resources to strategic plan implementation or projects.
  11. Direct the use of internal and external resources to ensure strategic initiatives and associated projects adhere to scope, schedule, and budget.
  12. Direct projects within and across major units of the College, including Academic Services, Student Services, Business Services, and the President's Office.
  13. Perform other duties as assigned.

Specific Functional Job Requirements

Education: Master's Degree preferred. Bachelor's Degree required in a field relevant to project management or business management. Project Management Professional certification, or similar education, preferred; or successful candidate will be required to possess or obtain this type of certification or education within the first year of successful employment.

Experience: Higher education experience preferred. Three to five years minimum demonstrated experience in project management or managing a strategic initiative(s).

Knowledge: Strong understanding of project management methodologies, excellent communication and leadership abilities, and preferred familiarity with the specific context of higher education institutions.

Skills: Strong planning, execution, interpersonal and leadership skills to drive successful outcomes. Clear communication, ability to delegate, problem solving, strategic thinking and time management.

Personal: Demonstrated ability to work independently as well as work collegially with a diverse population of students, staff and community in a fast-paced work environment with multiple priorities and interruptions. Detail-oriented, self-starter.
