Primary Purpose of the Organization:
The Department of Performing and Fine Arts is housed in the College of Humanities and Social Sciences. The Department is committed to building community through the arts by being a resource for performing and fine arts pedagogy and performance, cultivating a climate where creativity flourishes, engaging the community with the arts, and making the arts accessible to all. Primary Purpose of the Position:
Fayetteville State University department of Performing and Fine Arts invites applicants to apply to the tenure-track, nine (9) month faculty position at the rank of Assistant/Associate in Professor in Visual/Digital Art scheduled to begin Fall 2026. The successful candidate will be responsible for teaching a range of undergraduate courses in digital arts, with topics that may include digital illustration, animation, interactive media, and game design. They will play a key role in shaping the curriculum to reflect current industry standards and emerging technologies, ensuring students are well-prepared for careers in creative and tech-driven fields.
Minimum Education and Experience Requirements:
Assistant Professor:


  • MFA in Digital Arts, Game Design, Interactive Media, or a closely related field.
  • Demonstrated teaching experience at the college/university level.
  • Strong portfolio of creative work or research in digital arts.
  • Commitment to inclusive teaching practices and student-centered learning.


Associate Professor:


  • MFA in Digital Arts, Game Design, Interactive Media, or a closely related field.
  • 10 years or more professional experience in game design/animation
  • 5 years or more teaching experience in higher ed
  • Demonstrated teaching experience at the college/university level.
  • Strong portfolio of creative work or research in digital arts.
  • Commitment to inclusive teaching practices and student-centered learning.

Knowledge skills and abilities:

  • Knowledge of contemporary and relevant computer programs.
  • Ability to maintain a climate that is collegial, that respects and values diversity, that treats faculty, staff, and learners fairly, and that is hospitable to creativity and innovation.
  • Exceptional communication skills.
  • Artistic curiosity.
  • Collaborative work style

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Professional experience in game design, including proficiency with game engines (e.g., Unity, Unreal), level design, narrative design, and user experience.
  • Experience with AR/VR, procedural generation, or AI-enhanced creative tools.
  • Evidence of interdisciplinary collaboration or industry partnerships.
  • Experience in curriculum development and program assessment.
