Bolton & Menk is looking for a creative, ambitious, and curious individual to join our Minneapolis-based team as an Urban Designer II. In this role, you will join our Minnesota-based Urban Design Team to work collaboratively on multi-disciplinary project teams consisting of planners, landscape architects, economists, and other affiliated professionals. Specifically you will focus on researching and developing Small Area Plans, Downtown Plans, and Station Area Plans throughout the Midwest and beyond.

What You Will Be Doing:


  • Develops and/or guides the planning and design studies, technical memorandums, land development reviews, development site or master plans, and reporting in support of new and updated urban design plans, concepts, programs, regulations, and proposed projects.
  • Researches and creates reports and graphics summarizing a variety of urban design topics based on document review, data collection and analysis, and other methods.
  • Facilitates or assists with community engagement and outreach when developing and reviewing plans, including working with community groups, government agencies, developers, and elected officials.
  • Leads presentations and facilitates meetings with public officials, project clients, and project partners.
  • Travel to facilities and other projected related locations as necessary.


What We Are Looking For:


  • Master's degree in planning, landscape architecture, or related field from an accredited college with at least four years of progressive experience or equivalent education and experience
  • Certificate by the American Institute of Certified Planners (AICP), licensure as a professional Landscape Architecture in the state(s) of practice, or licensure as a professional architect in the state(s) of practice is strongly preferred but not required.
  • Thorough understanding of placemaking and community design (building, streets, and public space types plus associated principles)
  • Strong ability to communicate effectively verbally, in writing and through drawings
  • Strong knowledge and skills in hand or digital drawings, sketching, and renderings
  • Strong knowledge and skills in design software such as CAD, Sketchup, or similar programs is preferred
  • Thorough knowledge in related software (i.e. MS Office, Adobe Creative Suite)
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
  • Excellent composition, grammar and proofreading skills.
  • Excellent interpersonal and problem-solving skills.
  • Excellent time management and organization skills.
  • Possess a valid drivers license as travel to various facilities and job sites may be required

Salary Range: $70,000 - $98,000 depending on years of experience and credentials

Bolton & Menk is providing the compensation range that the company in good faith believes it might pay and offer for this position, based on the successful applicant's education, experience, knowledge, skills, abilities in addition to specific geographic location.
