Overview
The Supervisor, Service Engineering manages direct reports to maintain and perform preventive maintenance of all laboratory equipment, and manages vendor relations, service contracts, and works to maintain peak efficiency. Acts independently to determine methods and procedures on new assignments and oversees and prioritizes the regular activities of other lower-level personnel.

Responsibility
Uses professional concepts and company's policies and procedures to independently solve a wide range of complex issues in the lab in accordance with SOPs. Able to independently troubleshoot moderate to complex issues in the lab.
Responsibilities level I-II duties in addition to troubleshooting and repair of increasingly complex instrumentation and automation systems, including custom software and software-driven instrument integrations.
Involved in equipment SOP creation and review; ensures best practices for instrument use and maintenance are followed, especially for liquid handlers.
Work is consistently accurate and clear with effort on identifying cause and solution to the root cause.
Coordinates vendor service visits and service contracts.
Lead contributor to cross-functional projects and high impact process improvements.
Manages activities of subset of team, responsible for meeting team performance objectives and ensuring training and development of direct reports.
Serves as an escalation point for Service Engineers for complex and critical issues.
Follows communication and good documentation practices in compliance with regulatory (FDA, ISO, CAP/CLIA, New York State) requirements. Ensures the training and
regulatory compliance of direct reports and reviews team member communication and documentation for accuracy and compliance. Drives improvement as needed.
Completes training for all instruments.
Participates in large cross-functional team projects, or become a project owner of a small, process improvement project.

Qualifications
Meets one of the following education and experience requirements:
Master's Degree in Mechanical Engineering, Biology, Computer Science, or related field with minimum 2 years of relevant experience or Bachelor's Degree in Mechanical Engineering, Biology, Computer Science, or related field with minimum 4 years of relevant experience or AS Degree with minimum 6 years of relevant experience or Minimum 8 years of relevant experience or Minimum 6 year of internal experience with Myriad lab processes.
Demonstrated understanding of science pertinent to laboratory operations.
Demonstrated leadership traits and accomplishments in both internal team process improvement projects and cross-functional projects.
Broad understanding of laboratory workflows and SOPs and is responsible for training new hires.
Demonstrated ability to train calibration technicians, and service engineers Level I-II, and should be a subject matter expert on some workflows.
Consistent ability to make sound decisions and to troubleshoot moderately difficult problems.
Understanding of the quality systems and demonstrates compliance with regulatory (FDA, ISO, CAP/CLIA) requirements for the work performed and regulatory guidelines.
Participates in internal and external regulatory audits, including audit responses and documentation.
Command-line proficiency, preferably with Python, to manipulate custom software integrations.
Understanding of best practices for instrument use and upkeep, especially for liquid handlers and proper tools and techniques for maintenance and troubleshooting.

Physical Requirements
Lifting Requirements - medium work or exerting up to 50 pounds of force occasionally, 20 pounds of force frequently, and 10 pounds of force consistently. Physical Requirements - stationary positioning, moving, operating, ascending/descending, communicating, observing, reaching, and repetitive motion. Use of equipment and tools necessary to perform essential job functions. Hazards and Atmospheric Conditions - exposure to fumes, dust, extreme temperatures, wet and/or humid, noise, vibration, mists or gases, mechanical hazards, chemical hazards, electrical hazards, and radiant energy hazards. OSHA Category I - duties performed routinely requires exposure to blood, body fluid, and tissue.
