Job Description
The Technical Writer I will be a key player in developing, editing, and maintaining technical documentation, including reports, test plans, and other technical materials. This position requires a meticulous individual with strong writing skills, attention to detail, and proficiency with standard software applications. The Technical Writer I will collaborate with engineers, analysts, and other professionals to ensure clarity and consistency in the documentation process.

Duties and Responsibilities

Documentation Services:
* Develop, write, format, and edit technical documentation such as test plans, reports, standards, and proposals
* Prepare documents for final publication in electronic media/format, ensuring proper organization, clarity, and coherence

Editing and Reviewing:
* Review and edit technical documents, ensuring accuracy, consistency, and adherence to established formats and standards
* Collaborate with subject matter experts to assure correct technical interpretation and content accuracy
* Research background materials for similarities with previously published documents to ensure conformity with established formats and precedents

Technical Support:
* Provide technical guidance and support for document preparation, ensuring that documents meet quality standards
* Assist in the creation of technical illustrations and audiovisual presentations using desktop publishing systems

Meeting Participation:
* Attend meetings to support, research, and provide detailed information pertaining to the content of technical documents
* Serve as a consultant during technical review meetings, providing advice and recommending textual revisions to participants

Quality Assurance:
* Perform quality assurance and configuration management for all technical documentation services
* Ensure all documentation reflects current system configurations and is up-to-date

Data Management:
* Maintain logs and records for all documentation activities, ensuring proper archiving and retrieval of technical documents
* Provide database updates and process documentation for test plans, reports, and briefs utilizing Microsoft Office Suite and other software as directed

Training and Guidance:
* Provide guidance and training to team members on documentation standards and best practices
* Create and maintain procedural manuals and instructions for document preparation

* Other duties as assigned
Qualifications
Required Skills and Qualifications

* Bachelor's degree in English, Communication, Information Technology, Computer Science, or a related field
* Minimum of two years of experience in technical writing, editing, or documentation support
* Strong background in preparing and organizing technical documentation for engineering or IT projects
* Proficiency with Microsoft Office Suite (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Access) and other documentation tools
* Familiarity with desktop publishing systems and audiovisual presentation software
* Ability to utilize research tools and resources to gather information and verify content accuracy

Physical Demands and Working Conditions

* The work of this position is performed in an environmentally controlled office environment
* Must be capable of sitting and entering data on a computer keyboard for extended periods of time
* Must be able to view computer monitor for extended periods of time
* Must be able to lift 25 pounds unassisted

Terms of Employment and Eligibility Requirements

* Must be a U.S. Citizen
* Must possess a high school diploma or equivalent
* Must possess a valid driver's license, without special restrictions
* Must pass a pre-employment drug screening
* Must be able to successfully complete a background check
* Must possess or be able to obtain a security clearance prior to employment and maintain security clearance for the duration of employment
