Department of Pediatrics Job Description
The Department of Pediatrics at the University of Missouri School of Medicine is excited to announce an opening for a Student Support Specialist II to join our education team. This vital role provides direct support to the medical student education program and program directors with the successful planning, execution, and oversight of the Pediatric clerkship and 4th-year elective rotations. Position Overview This position will serve as the primary departmental contact for medical students, helping to ensure requirements are met, orientations are successful, schedules are accurate, and evaluations are completed in a timely manner. This successful candidate will work collaboratively within the department and with external partners to uphold the educational goals of the School of Medicine and meet compliance standards set by OME and LCME. ________________________________________ Key Responsibilities Include: * Serve as the lead coordinator for the Pediatrics medical student program, supporting both the 3rd-year clerkship and 4th-year elective rotations. * Create and manage student clerkship orientation materials and schedules for 7 academic year blocks. * Track M4 student registration, communicate with divisions about block assignments (11 four-week blocks), and manage rotation planning. * Coordinate visiting student applications in VSLO; ensure compliance with hospital and institutional requirements. * Process and distribute student, faculty, and course evaluations; track and submit student grades for each rotation in a timely manner. * Plan and execute student orientation sessions, end-of-year wrap-up events, and award recognition programs. * Update and maintain course syllabi, 4th-year course catalog, and departmental faculty list. * Ensure evaluation forms for visiting students are returned to home institutions promptly. * Use knowledge of department and institutional policies to solve routine problems independently, escalating only when necessary. * Identify areas for improvement and make recommendations to enhance efficiency and student experience. * Regularly communicate with faculty, students, and institutional partners to exchange information and provide updates. * Complete other related duties as assigned in support of the department's educational mission. ________________________________________ Working Relationships & Impact: * Understands how responsibilities integrate within the student support team and broader educational infrastructure. * Exercises judgment to solve typical challenges independently, with limited supervisory input. * Impacts the quality of services and experiences provided to students, faculty, and institutional partners. * Facilitates communication and coordination between internal and external stakeholders. Work Hours: Monday-Friday, 8am-5pm Minimum Qualifications
A Bachelor's degree or an equivalent combination of education and experience from which comparable knowledge and skills can be acquired is necessary. Preferred Qualifications
* At least 2-3 years of experience in academic support, student services, or higher education coordination (preferred). * Strong understanding of student support systems and ability to plan, organize, and implement program logistics. * Ability to interpret and apply policies, solve problems using standard procedures, and handle confidential information. * Excellent communication, organizational, and interpersonal skills. * Proficiency with Microsoft Office Suite, scheduling systems, and student information platforms; familiarity with VSLO, Epic, and evaluation systems is a plus.
