PRIMARY FUNCTION: Responsible for timely response to requests for the release of health information, and answering phone calls, while protecting patient confidentiality. PRINCIPAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Answers high volume of calls received in the ROI call center and responds to customers inquires in a polite and courteous manner.
- Screens, sorts, and prioritizes correspondence/mail and print requests, separating priority versus non-priority requests for the release of health information.
- Reviews and screens, all requests for the release of health information for appropriate authorization and disclosures. Adheres to state and federal privacy and security standards and regulations (DE Code Title 16, Maryland Code, HIPAA, HITECH Act, etc.). In addition to ChristianaCare systemwide and HIMS department privacy and security policies.
- Accesses radiology images and creates CD's for release to patients and authorized requestors upon valid authorization.
- Logs in/out request for the release of health information within the chart tracking system.
- Assists the Risk Management department with securing and/or identifying records of those cases which could lead to/or where legal action has been taken against ChristianaCare and/or its' physicians.
- Answers subpoenas served upon HIMS, via court appearance or reproduction of records.
- Serves as the custodian of the legal health record (paper or electronic) by representing ChristianaCare in legal proceedings, and at the request of the court, to certify that a patient's health record was kept in the normal course of business.
- Locates, retrieves, or coordinates the retrieval/release of health information with the vendor and/or the HIMS Representatives as required for processing requests including coordinating the release.
- Performs quality checks of health information printed for requests prior to release.
- Faxes information to health care providers upon request for treatment purposes.
- Creates electronic copies of patient's health information by use of CD-ROM or sending via secured e-mail.
- Communicates with Supervisor to keep them informed of the status of work, potential issues, and concerns.
- Utilizes general office equipment and computer systems/software applications necessary to perform functions.
- Performs assigned work safely, adhering to established departmental safety rules and practices; reports to supervisor, in a timely manner, any unsafe activities, conditions, hazards, or safety violations that may cause injury to oneself, other employees, patients and visitors.
- Completes special projects/assignments as required, including coverage in other areas as workload priorities demand.
- Performs other related duties as required.
EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE REQUIREMENTS:
High school graduate or equivalent. Two or more years of general office experience, preferably in a healthcare environment. Release of Information background preferred.
SPECIAL REQUIREMENTS:
Ability to make decisions and apply judgment. Ability to communicate efficiently and effectively in both written and verbal form. Must be flexible, versatile, and adaptive.
PHYSICAL DEMANDS:
Bending, stooping, lifting, reaching, and carrying records not more than 15 lbs. Pulling and pushing carts of records not more than 28 lbs. WORKING CONDITIONS: Hybrid work environment. Routine office environment. Travel between ChristianaCare locations when needed.
Hourly Pay Range: $17.32 - $25.12
This pay rate/range represents ChristianaCare's good faith and reasonable estimate of compensation at the time of posting. The actual salary within this range offered to a successful candidate will depend on individual factors including without limitation skills, relevant experience, and qualifications as they relate to specific job requirements.
